They went to the village, after the battle. It was different than Cair Paraval, but not unpleasant in the Pevensie's minds.
Caspian was coronated the next day. A parade was held after. Y/n was invited to come, riding a horse beside Caspian as they rode through the streets. It was strange to see so many people cheering and waving at her. Their attention was mainly on the Kings and Queens but some of it was directed at her and it was a little frightening.
Being at the castle was better, calmer.
After the parade, everyone gathered in the Great hall for dancing and a feast and at night the sky filled with fireworks. Peter had pulled Y/n away from everyone else still celebrating. Peter and Y/n watched the fireworks together, although, Y/n caught Peter watching her instead of the pretty lights.
"You're missing it," she teased.
"I'm watching something much more beautiful." She blushed as Peter leaned in connecting their lips in a soft kiss. It was different than earlier. That one was rushed, hungry. But there was no war looming over them now. They could savour their time.
Peter didn't know how long he would have this time around. Last time he had been pulled back home unexpectedly. He didn't want to leave with any regrets. So, any time he could, he spent with Y/n. They went for numerous walks and rides. Peter was pretty sure she was the one.
It didn't feel like two weeks had passed, but it had, and Aslan had called for a meeting of all the Telemarines in the Castle's courtyard.
Y/n had stood up near the front with her father and a few of the other Narnians. Lucy and Edmund stood on the other side of the big tree. None of them knew what this meeting was about. Y/n was pretty sure Caspian knew and possibly Peter or Susan but she didn't know. Aslan had pulled Peter away from their daily walk earlier to talk about something important. She assumed it was about this meeting but she didn't have a clue as to what it could be.
Caspian had left to go find Peter, Susan and Aslan once everyone had gathered.
"Narnia belongs to the Narnians," Caspian began when everyone had settled, "just as it does to man. Any Telmarines who want to stay and live in peace are welcome to. But for any of you who wish," he paused, glancing at the lion beside him, "Aslan will return you to the home of our forefathers."
"It's been generations since we left Telmar," one of the people in the crowd commented.
"We're not referring to Telmar." Aslan stepped forward. "Your ancestors were seafaring brigands. Pirates run aground on an island. There they found a cave, a rare chasm that brought them here from their world. The same world as our kings and queens."
Y/n felt tears well up in her eyes. She really didn't want this to be the end, but it was the perfect way to send the Pevensies back home.
"It is to that island, I can return you," Aslan continued. "It is a good place for any who wish to make a new start."
Glozelle was the first to speak. "I will go. I will accept the offer."
Pruniprisma and her father also accepted. "So will we."
"Because you have spoken first, your future in that world shall be good." Aslan blew on the group, blessing them.
As he finished, he looked to the tree. It began twisting, causing many people to gasp. When it stopped, an archway had formed in the trunk. Aslan gestured for them to enter. They did, disappearing instantly.
Many people started shouting.
"Where did they go?"
"They killed them!"
"How do we know he is not leading us to our death?"
"Sire," Reepicheep spoke up. "If my example can be of any service, I will take 11 mice through with no delay."
Aslan turned to look at the Pevensies, causing Y/n to look as well.
Peter met her gaze as he spoke. "We'll go." He stepped forward.
"We will?" Edmund asked.
Y/n couldn't hear what was being said. He's not leaving, she kept repeating to herself. Her father's hand resting on her shoulder pulled her back to reality. She met his gaze and he gave her a small smile. This was really happening. She let a tear fall from her eyes, desperately trying to will the others away.
She looked back to see Peter handing his sword to Caspian.
"I will look after it until you return," he promised, taking the sword.
"I'm afraid that's just it," Susan began speaking. "We're not coming back."
Peter looked to Y/n, his own eyes getting glossy.
"We're not?" Lucy asked.
"You two are," Peter said, turning back to his siblings. "At least," he looked at Aslan, "I think he means you two."
"But why?" Lucy was starting to get emotional too. She didn't want this to be the end for any of them. "Did they do something wrong?"
Peter met Y/n's eyes once again, trying to reassure her that she would be fine without him, but also trying to reassure himself of the same thing. He didn't really want to go without her. They had grown so close for only knowing each other for a few weeks. He was sure with time he could say he loved her. Maybe, he already did; there was no one else he thought about all the time, except maybe his siblings, and he could see a life with her. Maybe he was in love.
"Quite the opposite, dear one. But all things have their time. Your brother and sister have learned what they can from this world. Now it's time for them to live in their own."
Reluctantly Peter pulled his eyes from Y/n yet again. "It's alright, Lu. It's not how I thought it would be," he paused, glancing over his shoulder at the girl he loved, "but it's alright. One day you'll see too. Come on."
The siblings made their way over to the other side of the tree, saying goodbye to each of their friends. Lucy made sure to hug each person, especially Trumpkin even though he hated hugs.
When Peter got to Y/n, he was sure he would cry. He placed his hand on her cheek, rubbing away a few of the stray tears. She smiled at him, laughing a bit at both of their failed attempts to pretend everything was okay. He smiled back, leaning to place a sweet kiss upon her lips.
"Come with us." He hadn't meant to say it out loud. It was what he wanted, but he didn't want her to choose between him and her life. She closed her eyes letting another tear fall. "I'm sorry," he whispered.
"It's okay." She smiled placing a kiss to his hand before letting it go. She couldn't leave her father or Caspian. Narnia had to be rebuilt and they would need help.
Slowly the Pevensies made their way to the tree and with a final glance back, they stepped through.
