Serenity~
She was so out of it. "What happened to Friday at 4? No one came and picked us up, no one told me that it was cancelled." Her mother spoke in her American accent. Naeun and Trey reached as we got a bigger table. "I'm so sorry, ma'am that was my fault, I forgot and I apologize about that. Serenity looked at her parents, pleading and begging with her eyes that they won't do anything embarrassing. My father simply nods, "Nice to meet you, I'm Lenny Priddie and this is my beautiful wife, Sherel Priddie." He spoke gently. "You are very beautiful I most say Sherel, your daughter get that from you." August's grandfather, Harry complemented my mother. She smiles, "Why thank you." She sighs, so far so good.
Naeun looked so relieved as well. "So I hear an accent in there, what country are you from?" His father asked them. "Oh we're from Trinidad." She smiled at him as he nods. "Beautiful island I must say, I was planning on going there some day, for Carnival. It looks so vibrant and and energetic." He explained. "Well you will certainly enjoy it." Her father said to him. She looked at August who was sipping his wine shooting glares at his mother for doing this to him. She held his thigh under the table giving him an assured smile. "Oh! I almost forgot! I invited Brenda as well! She wanted to come and give you the best wishes." That was it! His mother was pushing her buttons but she couldn't show it of course.
"Can I ask why mother?" He clenched his jaw as his mother smiles, "Don't be that way, she may be your ex wife but she has good intentions. Her parents looked at her as if they knew what was happening. Naeun and Trey stopped eating and looked on at what was happening. "She'll be here in a minute, by the time let's enjoy the meal." The tension was thick. She uneasily ate her meal looking around the room. Why was his mother doing this to her? If it's not her skin color or her wealth then what was it? His father looked at his wife with disappointment all over his face. He gave his son an apology and continued eating.
Then I saw her walk through wearing the most UGLIEST, orange dress she has ever seen in her life. She snickered looking away, "What on earth does she have on?" August whispered to me chuckling. "I am trying to figure that out." When Serenity's mother doesn't like something, her face shows it and right now, it showed disgust and amusement. Everyone had stopped eating and watch her make her grand entrance. "Sorry I'm late, there was some traffic." She sat down next to August smiling at him. "Hello Auggie." He leans away from her slightly. "Hello Brenda and my name's August." He corrected her. She cleared her throat and orders her meal as she ate with them. "So why are you hear Briana?" Naeun asked her sipping her wine. Brenda gave her a sour look and clears her throat. "It's Brenda and I'm here to support August." Naeun shook her head. "You can support from afar and I don't care what your name is Bree." She snapped making Serenity smile. "Okay, ladies that's enough. We don't want a repeat of earlier now would we?" Trey said making us chuckle. Brenda looked so embarrassed.
August cousins chuckled as well. Well it looks like they saw it too. The night went smoothly after that. They spoke about each other and about the wedding. Things went more smoothly than she expected which was a good thing. His mother looked sour as a lime but didn't dear open her mouth. Brenda was glaring at Serenity the entire night but Naeun and Trey ignored each other the entire night as well. She wanted to know what happened to them. He was chasing her about a month ago and now he pretends that she wasn't even in the room. Serenity knew her best friend. She was hurt and even though she was talking to everyone and smiling, she was hurt. The night ended perfectly. Everyone except the usual, fell in love with Serenity and thought that she was good for August. Thank God that she was black because they way she was blushing.
She waved at them as they left and turned to August. "I think I did good. What do you think?" She questioned feeling happy with herself. "I am very impressed with you, Serenity. I thought something would have happened tonight with that little stunt my mother pulled but it was good." Serenity frowned slightly. "Why doesn't she like me?" She sighs. "August held her close "I don't know baby. She liked everyone else." She pouts, placing her head on his chest. "No matter what she says I'm marrying you." He sounded so determined. "I know." She smiled looking at him. "Let's get out of here." She got in the car and he drove off.
