The weekend ended in a flash and the dreaded day was finally here. Lola was fixing Jace his snack . I just finished dressing him for school and was now combing his raven hair.

"Sophie we need to get going."Lola said after a while.

I sighed. This is it, Jace's first day of his school life.

"Okay, you ready buddy? " Please say you don't want to go please...

"Yes mommy! "He said eagerly.

"Let's get moving then." I said half-heartedly.

"Dear, you're going like that?" Lola asked pointing to what I was wearing.

I looked at myself,  I was wearing a big black hoodie and grey baggy sweatpants. Well, I usually sleep in them but no one knows that,  so it's all good.

"No Lola, I have to wear shoes."I said in a 'duh' tone. I can't believe she thought I was planning on walking barefoot. I went and got my navy blue converses that were under Jace's bed and wore them.

"Ok, let's go." I said rubbing my hands together. I gave Jace a piggy back ride and we were out of the door.

The school wasn't too far, maybe a ten minutes walk, from the apartment. I also realized Betty's diner was just two blocks away. Somehow, knowing Jace was near my place of work comforted me.

Lola helped me put Jace down and I kneeled infront of him. "We are here Jace. " I told him sadly. "I want you to be a good boy ok? "

"Okay mommy. "He said nodding. I hugged him tightly kissing his hair. I didn't want to let him go. He was also hugging me and when I pulled back he had tears in his beautiful eyes. And that broke my heart and despite myself, I started crying too.

"Shh please don't cry baby or you're gonna make mommy cry too. " I said in a trembling voice. The tears were still flowing.

Oh God, is this how all mothers feel? Cause this feeling is really awful. I took a deep breath to calm myself. "Sweetheart, I'll come later to pick you up and then we'll go for ice cream okay? " I promised him, kissing his forehead, his cheeks, his temple then his forehead again.

"But I don't want you to go. " His bottom lip was quivering and I knew he was about to cry."I wanna go to school with you."

"Sophie dear, you're also running late, just go and I'll make sure Jace's... "

"No! Don't leave me! " Jace screamed.

Lola carried Jace inside the school despite his protests.

I started making my way to the diner in a trance-like state. The tears in my eyes was making everything blurry. But I just kept walking unblinkingly. There was this pain in my chest that was making it hard for me to breath. If am feeling like this, how is Jace feeling? He looked really hurt and I didn't do anything I just stood there watching Lola take him away.

A loud whimper escaped my throat. A painful lump was also lodged in my throat making it hard to swallow. I had already reached the diner but I couldn't move my body.

Jace, my sweet darling.

With that thought, I started running in the opposite direction;where my son was.

To hell with school.

Half way there, I caught sight of a small boy running towards me. Wiping my tears, I saw his beautiful face, and started laughing, my speed automatically increasing.

The moment I reached him I scooped him in my arms and fell on my knees.

"Mommy you left me! You left me alone... " He was saying crying really hard.

"Am sorry baby, am really sorry but am here now. Shhh baby stop crying. I promise I won't ever leave you again." I told him cradling him to my chest.

Ever.

Gabriel's POV.

I met Adam and he was of great assistance to me.

Doris threw the baby when he was only four days old. Four. And after a week she flew to Italy for a career of modelling and never looked back since then. How can someone be so wicked and cruel? So selfish towards someone who you're suppose to protect and love?

Adam is someone I've known my whole life and he doesn't have a malicious bone in his body. He may be an old butler who has served Doris' family loyally for decades but he's also an honest and just man. And I honestly believe every word he uttered. He told me where she abandoned the baby four years ago and I immediately went there.

This part of Castle Grove is much more simple and real compared to my neighborhood. I have been searching for my son for two days but am really confused. Where do I start looking and how? When I went to the only orphanage and they told me it's has been six years since they received their last kid, my hopes came crashing down.

Is he even in this town?

I could feel a headache forming; this is so frustrating. I saw a diner across the street and I went to get a cup of coffee. It was rather crowded inside so I ordered my coffee to go. There was a bench outside so I decided to sit there.

Sipping the hot liquid, I took in my surroundings. The road was quite empty for a Monday morning and some people were busy rushing off to who knows where. I was still looking at the place when I saw a young boy in the distant. He was wearing dark baggy clothes but something was definitely not okay with him. It was like he was just walking without seeing where he was going. Probably under the influence of some drug.

He was walking towards me and the more he got nearer the more I realised 'he' was actually a girl. Her hair was reddish brown and really short. She also had really cute bangs but she seemed sad. What could've happened to her?

She finally reached where I was sitting but it appeared like she couldn't see me. She was just staring ahead;gazing at something only she could see. She looked so helpless just standing there and I wanted to help her. A painful whimper escaped her throat and suddenly I knew she wasn't high, she was hurting inside, it was evident from her sorrowful eyes to her outward appearance.

"Jace, my sweet darling." She whispered and took off in the opposite direction. I immediately started running after her. Who knew what she was about to do?

"Hey! Stop! " But she just kept running.

I was about to stop her physically when I heard her...laughing? I looked ahead to try and see what made her laugh but there was only a crying kid running towards us.

I came to a sudden halt

The girl scooped the kid and hugged him tightly. She was sitting on the ground with the boy cradled in her arms. Kissing and hugging him tenderly. The boy had called her mommy. Wow, she was a mother, a very young mother. And it was evident that she loved her son very much, even a blind person could see that.

The kid had calmed down and was smiling at something his mother whispered to him. I could see his face clearly but there was something pulling me towards them; towards him. I started moving and suddenly froze.

Can it be?
