Gabriel's POV.
For a split second, the boy looked like Doris when he pouted.
No! It was the frustration of not finding my son yet playing tricks on me.
I continued gawking at them. The girl was still sitting on the pavement without a care in the world. Some people were looking at them curiously while they walked by but it was like she didn't notice them. Like it was just the two of them. She didn't not even notice me and I was near them. I caught myself smiling. They looked so innocent and pure just sitting there like it was a very normal thing to do.
"Sophie! " An old woman shouted. The girl stood up and looked at the old woman who was now a couple of shops away. The old woman seemed angry which amused the girl for some reason. Such a cute name.
"Uh oh. " The girl said playfully. She carried the little boy and sprinted away laughing with the boy's head bobbing up and down with each step she took. I looked back at the angry old woman and she was laughing too. Weird.
Without thinking, I followed the girl. She crossed the road still carrying the kid but now on her back. I trailed behind them. After walking for a while we were in some rundown park. The park was empty except for two men who were playing chess on one of the moss covered picnic tables. I heard screaming and saw Sophie running away from the boy who was holding something on a stick. But unfortunately she ran directly into a tree and fell down. Ouch. She was clutching her head, laughing really hard.
She's so carefree and free spirited.
I went to sit on one of the picnic tables.
"By the way did your son ever asked her out? " One of the chess players asked. I couldn't help but listen in on their conversation since I was beside them and they were talking really loudly.
"That stupid boy deserved what he got. " Came a grumpy answer.
"What do you mean? " The first one chuckled.
"I told him to go find a decent young woman and forget about Sophie but he insisted... " Sophie? Could it be this same Sophie. I searched the park and saw her removing her hoodie and shoes.
"But just look at her, she's very beautiful." It was true, she was beautiful and she wasn't even trying. I gasped when I saw her jump into the puddle of mud with the kid. They were both laughing and smearing soil in each others faces.
"Just look at her now, she's a really bad influence to that kid. What kind of a mother behaves like that?" An out of this world mother. I thought to myself.
"So what did she do to your son?" Glasses said. He was wearing glasses, so yeah.
"You'll never guess." The other man spat. "You know what? She vomited on him. Vomit. That disgusting girl threw up on my son."
Glasses was laughing so hard that he was literally slapping his knees. But the other man looked so upset. "You got to love her Parker. But I think you're just sour because the victim was your kid." Glasses said in between fits of laughter.
"I hate her. Period."
I peered again at Sophie who was now covered in mud from head to toe. She picked her shoes and hoodie from the ground and held her son's hand with the other and started heading in my direction. Or the park's exit. She was hopping from foot to foot, with mud dripping from her, oblivious to her surrounding when she stopped.
Her gaze was fixed to the people beside me. She started walking again but slower and when she was near enough she stopped walking.
"Hi...men." She greeted. Hi men? Never heard of that one before.
"Hello young Sophie!" Glasses replied cheerfully.
"Hi Mr.Parker" She said again but it came out as a question.
"Go away!" Parker barked. That was totally uncalled for not to mention rude. I don't like him.
"Oh, okay. Bye." Sophie squeaked before she left. Something tells me she's used to this kind of treatment. And for some reason, that thought really pissed me off.
"That was rude you know. " Glasses muttered.
"No! What she did to my son was rude." he sneered. I felt like smacking him to death. Not wanting to hear their dialogue again I stood up to leave.
Sophie's POV.
"Go away!"
I think Mr.Parker doesn't like muddy people judging by the hatred in his eyes. Maybe when am clean he'll talk to me.
"Oh,okay. Bye." I said.
Mr. Parker is one of Bettys' regular customer. I've tried making small conversation with him but he always lashes out at me. Even when am not covered in mud like right now. I wonder why that is?
I love old people. They are the best people you could have as friends. I remember how I was afraid of Mr.Chan at first but now he's my best friend in the world. There's also dear Lola but I don't know what's the deal with Mr.parker. Even his best friend, Mr.Miller talks to me. He even offered to teach me how to play that really confusing game they love playing. Yes chess. Sometimes he takes me on his evening walk to the town square, so I guess Mr.Miller is pretty much my good friend.
Oh Noooo!
I think I know why Mr.Parker ignores me. Poor man thinks I'm going to take his best friend away from him. Well, next time we meet I'll have to clarify things with him.
"...what about you mommy?" Jace was saying something. I gazed down at him wanting to smile but the dried up mud on my face made it impossible.
"Mmmmh?" I asked.
"The mud is making me itchy.Do you feel itchy?" Come to think of it I was feeling kinda itchy.
"Yes baby, but once we wash up and we're clean it's going to stop.'Kay?"
He nodded his head. Lola is going to nag me when we get home. But Jace loves playing in the mud and I've discovered so do I, so its alright. The happiness radiating off of him is totally worth it. I would live in that puddle if it makes Jace happy.
