It's been only a week since Dick started living with us. I'm worried about how much time he's been spending in the foyer in front of the portrait I made for him. He sleeps there most nights and I carry him to his room once he falls asleep. Bruce and I agreed that Dick would start school at Gotham Academy this year. He took an entrance exam and passed wonderfully. For being raised in the circus, the boy is incredibly smart.
I was just about to go check up on Dick tonight in the foyer, but he isn't there. The glass of water I got for him an hour ago still is though. I don't panic too much before I go check in his room to see if he's there. He's not in his room, the bathroom, the kitchen or anywhere else in the manor. I've even checked the gym that we have in case he decided to practice his acrobatics. We told him he was free to it but I didn't think he's get back on the horse this quickly.
I go to Alfred's study to see if he's seen Dick.
"Alfred, have you seen Dick anywhere?" I ask him as he's reading by the candle light.
"I can't say I have. Is he not in the foyer?" Alfred asked. I shake my head and start panicking. I know Bruce is out as Batman tonight, but I call him anyway. Maybe he ran away. I've seen kids in the local shelter run away all the time right after being taken in by a foster family. I run down the stairs into the Batcave.
"Bruce?" I say into the phone he has down here that connects directly to him com link.
"What is it?" I hear a hushed voice after a few seconds.
"I can't find Dick. I know you must be busy but I need your help looking for him, he might have ran away." I say frantic and afraid into the com.
"Relax, he's here with me." He replies. I breath a sigh of relief and then realize what he just said.
"What?!" I screech.
"Ow." He mumbles, sarcastically.
"Tell me right now why you have an eight year old boy with you while you're fighting crime?" I ask loudly.
"Please babe, the com is directly in my ear." He says, I can hear the smirk in his voice.
"When you get home you'll be lucky if I only destroy your ears." I growl. "Now answer me, why do you have Dick?"
"He snuck out. He must have gotten into the cave, saw that I'm going after Zorro tonight, tracked my location, and followed me. He was at least knowledgable enough to wear a disguise."
"I don't care about some damn disguise, get both of your asses home immediately!" I say and hear him sigh.
"Alright, we're on our way." I sigh at his words and take a seat in Bruce's, or Batman's, chair. He is such a different person when he comes down here, it makes it hard to see them as the same person. After about ten minutes, the batmobile drives into its spot in the cave. Bruce jumps out and Dick, dressed in his Flying Grayons costume, also jumps out. I cross my arms and glare at the both of them. They both took off their masks and looked at me guiltily.
"Start from the beginning. Dick?" I asked and glared.
"Well, I was sleeping in the foyer, and I noticed Bruce go into his office, but he never came out. Alfred came out. So I decided to go investigate, and noticed the statue. I found the cave, and saw on the computer that Batman was at Haley's circus and thought he must me going after Zorro. So I followed him."
"How?" I asked. He showed me a grappling hook he had hooked to the back of his belt. "Then what happened, after you got to the circus?" I asked.
"It was so cool, I totally defeated Zorro! He finally go the justice he deserves!" My eyes go wide.
