Chapter 7

Anthony Wright

Cat and I walked casually down the hall, our hands in each other’s back pockets. We were acting as if Friday night never even happened, although, I doubt she remembered any of it anyway. I stopped mid-step as I spotted Ari at her locker. “ARI!” I screamed to her before running away from Cat. Ari just stood at her locker, laughing at me. Cat joined us a second later, laughing as well.

“What do you want, Anthony?” Ari asked, closing her locker and slinging her back pack over her shoulder. “Are you here to tell me that a giant army of unicorns and/or zombies has invaded the school or something like that?” I laughed, shaking my head and wrapping my arms around both Cat and Ari. There was a noticeable height difference between the two girls; Cat was taller than Ari, almost as tall as me, while the top of Ari’s head reached up to about my shoulder. “Well then what is it?” she laughed, putting her arm around my waist as Cat did the same.

"First of all, if there was an army of unicorns and/or zombies here, I'd be their leader."

Before I had the chance to continue, Cat said, “Y’know, Anthony, to other people, it probably looks like Ari and I are your bitches.” The three of us laughed, walking to our third period study hall/free period classroom. Somewhere along the way, Nathan joined our little group, wrapping his arm around Ari’s waist. They didn’t get back together over the weekend – props to Ari for saying no to him multiple times – but according to Nathan, they’re “talking.”

“Oh, Ari, I was gonna tell you that there’s a new girl, and she has really curly hair just like yours when you don't straighten it, and she wears red skinny jeans, and band tee shirts, and she loves all the bands that we do!” I exclaimed. She looked up at me at the same time that Cat did.

“Um, it seems to me that you’re a little too excited about this new girl,” Cat said, opening the door in front of us. Ari nodded her head in agreement.

As the full classroom came into view for me, I found her, sitting on a desk, reading “The Hunger Games.” The curly brown hair and red skinny jeans were a total give away. I tapped Nathan on his shoulder. His responding look kind of scared me, so I just pointed to her.

Cat obviously saw my gesture, making a disgusted face. “I don’t like her,” she said, taking what seemed to be the farthest seat from probably the most amazing girl - even more amazing than Cat - I’d seen in my life. I sat next to her, wrapping my arm around her shoulders.

“Oh, c’mon, babe!” I said. “You don’t even know her! Just give her a chance. I promise, no one could compare to you.” I kissed her cheek as Ari and Nathan walked over to the new girl, whose name I hadn’t learned yet.

Ari Armstrong

Anthony pointed to a desk in the middle of the room, where a girl with curly brown hair sat, wearing a My Chemical Romance tee, a pair of red skinny jeans, and fairly beat up Converse. She looked like she could be my best friend. Cat’s face contorted in disgust once she saw her. “I don’t like her,” she said, walking to the desk farthest away from the new girl and sitting down.

Anthony sat down next to her, wrapping his arm around her shoulders. “Oh, c’mon, babe! You don’t even know her! Just give her a chance. I promise, no one could compare to you,” he said, kissing her cheek. In the middle of their little exchange, I’d decided to go over and introduce myself to the MCR-wearing girl.
