Calum brought our suitcases in and set them in the living room. He whistled and said, "Nice place you got here."

"Thanks, I really didn't see it until now," I replied, placing Lucy on my other hip.

"What accent is that?" he asked, his face scrunched in confusion.

I laughed and said, "Um, American? I didn't know we had an accent." He only nodded and tucked his hands inside his jeans' pockets, chuckling to himself.

"Oh, here," he said, handing the keys over to me. I quickly made a move to grab it and accidentally knocked his hand, making him drop the keys. We both bended on instinct and the tips of our fingers brushed, igniting a spark within me.

My face flushed furiously as I drew my hand back. He glanced at me and grabbed the keys for me, smirking slightly. I chuckled nervously and shifted Lucy on my hip, letting him hand over the keys properly.

After a few moments of just staring at each other he pointed his thumb towards the front door, saying, "I better get going. Let you get settled in and stuff." I nodded gratefully at him and he added, "If you need help with anything, I'm just across the hall from you. Just knock or whatever." He shook his head to himself smiled sheepishly again at me.

"Bye," I chuckled, prolonging the vowel at the end of the word bye. He shut the door behind him and I set Lucy down on her feet, letting her explore our new home. I put my hands on my hips as I watch her waddle around. She stumbled and fell flat on her buttocks the floor with an oomph! and I almost panicked but then she laughed and patted the carpeted floor repeatedly beneath her.

I huffed out and tucked my hair at the back of my ears, going to Lucy and carrying her. We did a little tour of the apartment. It wasn't that huge, but it wasn't small either. It was just right; a master bedroom, two guest rooms and a functional bathroom in the middle, and a master bathroom. A kitchen with marble countertops, mahogany cupboards and a double-door refrigerator, a mini breakfast bar, and a small dining set fit for four people.

Then there's the living room, a U-shaped lounge sofa set, with a flat screen drilled to the wall. There was a nook filled with pillows and a massive window covering most of the wall at the far right side of the apartment. I plopped down on the mountain of pillows but the nook, placing Lucy at the very top and pulling her shirt up to blow a raspberry on her stomach.

She started giggling in a high pitched voice and I laughed along with her, tickling her stomach even more. She squirmed and laughed at the same time, managing to remove my gentle grip on her hips. She rolled over and stood up, stepping on the pillows as she neared the window. I went behind her and placed my hand on her back, rubbing circles as I watched her watch the cars drive by.

We had a fantastic view of the bright streets and tall buildings. This was one of the perks of being in a wealthy family. My mother being a doctor and my father being an A-list businessman, everything was set for us. We didn't struggle with money at all and I can't ever be thankful enough for that.

"Food, mmm," Lucy mumbled, rubbing her belly, signaling me that she was hungry.

"Alright, let's go to the kitchen," I told her, adding, "But, if you make a mess like you did that last time, you will not have those special cookies I keep in the jar." She nodded solemnly, as if understanding this brand new information.

I grabbed her hand and we walked towards the kitchen together. I pulled the baby chair from where it was tucked away in the corner and set it up, carrying Lucy and setting her down carefully. I strapped the belt around her belly and turned to the cupboards, grabbing a small box of instant oatmeal. Filling the electric kettle, I plugged it in the outlet and waited a few minutes before getting a Lucy's bowl.

"Mummy, food," Lucy pleaded, whining.

"It's almost done, honey," I told her.

I ripped open the oatmeal packet and dumped its contents inside the bowl. I filled it with hot water and waited for it to simmer down before opening the fridge and grabbing hold of the honey. My dad had asked one of his old assistants to do the grocery shopping for me two days before we arrived here.

I squeezed some honey out of its bottle and onto the oatmeal, mixing them together. I grabbed a stool from the breakfast bar and sat on it in front of Lucy, finally feeding her.

After that, we settled in for bed and I placed her inside her crib. I stayed beside her for almost twenty minutes, just singing her some lullabies until she fell asleep to the sound of my voice.

I checked the clock on my bedside table and found that it was around 9 o’clock in the evening. So it must be morning already in Houston. I grabbed my phone and dialed my Mum through Facetime. She answered almost immediately and I was greeted by her heartwarming smile.

“Mum, we’ve landed! It’s so beautiful here,” I whispered, smiling widely at her through the screen.

“Hi, Ellie, I already miss you so much,” she whispered back. “Why are we whispering?”

I chuckled, “Lucy’s asleep, Mum, don’t want to wake her up.”

“Ah, what time is it there?” she nodded quickly.

“Around 9pm,” I said, adding, “How’s everyone? Did you sleep well?”

“We’re fine,” she said, waving me off. “Had a good night’s sleep now knowing that you’re there safe. Oh, I forgot to tell you that your father hired a babysitter for Lucy in the mornings so you could find yourself a job.”

“Really? That’s great! I appreciate that, Mum, thank you,” I smiled sincerely.

We talked for a moment and suddenly a yawn slips from my mouth. Mum chuckled and flushed in embarrassment, joining in her laughter. “Well, I better sleep, then. I have a long day ahead of me tomorrow,” I told her.

“Okay, stay safe, my dear,” she replied, smiling.

“You too,” I nodded. We exchanged our love you’s and hung up afterwards. I stifled another yawn as I stood up and shut the lights inside the room, turning the lamp on beside Lucy’s crib in case she wakes up in the middle of the night. I plopped back down on the bed and crawled under the duvet, stretching my limbs before falling into a deep slumber.
