(Jane's POV)
Have you ever watched the world tilt in front of your eyes? When suddenly the world freezes and everything is peaceful for those few seconds? Oh how I've longed for the day of freedom from the darkness. So finally, I feel the ground collide with my skull. The cracking echoes through my head as I open my eyes to see a flash of blood. My blood. Everything is going slow motion in front of my eyes. I stare at the blood drops as they slowly fly through the air in front of me. Dark crimson drops land on the soft dirt, staining it dark brown. This is what my blood would create? A sorrowful puddle of mud where my hopes and dreams were sucked into a dark nothingness?
I could feel the blood slowly run down my forehead. Oh the red paint, how wonderful it is. How it paints my canvas of broken dreams into a mask to hide my emotions. Isn't it wonderful?
I feel my vision begin to fade away as everything becomes dizzy and black.Oh the red paint.
How wonderful.
Let's go to a time before this, a time where it was peaceful. Shall we?
I remember a warm day, flowers and trees were spread across the land. Oh yes, the forest. It was an ordinary day, mother and father cuddling each other as they sat in the flowers watching me. I was having the time of my life, giggling and running around in the tall grass. It was so beautiful.
Life was perfect.
Until I got curious. The curiousness was always a bother, making my mind bloom with theories and questions. Ugh, how annoyed of it I was, but I couldn't resist it. I was staring at a dark entry of a bush. Who knows what could be on the other side? Maybe treasure?
My poor young mind was too small to understand. So I ran off and crawled through the little entry in the bush, on the other side was a horrifying beast. It's fangs as sharp as needles, it's eyes as red as blood, it's fur as dark as the night sky, it's legs like a spider, it's oozy spit dripping out of it's disgusting mouth. Oh how scared I was. Poor helpless girl, didn't listen to her parents warnings about leaving their sight. The beast stared down at me aggressively, as I was scared out of my mind. But I wanted to be brave. I wanted to show my parents that I could be alone in the forest when I want to be. So I stood my ground and instead of fighting, I reached my hand out. The creature almost seemed threatened by what I was doing, but I kept my gaze into the creatures bloody red eyes.
The creature approached me and bows his head down, resting it's forehead against the palm of my small hand. I stroked the soft black fur and smiled, realizing how beautiful these creatures can actually be.
I went back to mother and father proud and happy that day.
A few months later my parents went out to get supplies, the day before my birthday.
I waited for them to return. I sat at the window and stared out it.They'll be back, I know they will.
Waiting.
A few hours pass, no mother and father.
Waiting.
The sun was going down, no mother and father.
Waiting.
Night time had came, no mother and father.
Waiting.
Night passes through morning, no mother and father..
Worrying.
They haven't returned, they promised we'd have a small celebration with each other for my birthday.
Worrying.
It's been hours, it's almost the afternoon.
Worrying.
It's evening, where's my family..?
Waiting.
Worrying.
Crying.
They never returned.
There the little girl sat, on the chair in the dining room, hugging her knees and letting out small hiccups and sniffles. "Mommy, daddy, it's my birthday..." She mumbled between soft sobs.
She whispered sadly,
"Happy birthday.."The news of my parents death, was the sign that I would never smile again.
