Chapter 4: Every Moment Counts

Heidi's POV

I am pulled out of my peaceful sleep by the sound loud thunder outside and the sound of very loud shrieking, I quickly open my eyes and get out of bed, "I am coming Henry." I say picking up him up and cradling him in my arms, I have been out of the hospital for 3 days now, and being a new mother isn't easy. "Henry, please calm down." I bounce Henry up and down trying anything to get him to relax, but nothing is working he is just screaming his poor his lungs out. I suddenly see Harry stir in bed, "This is the fifth time he has woken up in the past three hours." Harry grumbles sitting up in bed, "Welcome to being a parent of a newborn." Harry rubs his eyes and get out of bed walking over to the two of us, "I feel like I am horrible mother, all he does is cry." Harry wraps his arms around my waist kissing my head, "You are a wonderful mother, I think it's the storm that is scaring him." I sigh looking down at poor Henry, "Harry I have tried everything, I have fed him, burped him, and changed him." I lean back against Harry's bare chest, "It will get easier as he gets older, and I promise that one day you will look back on nights like this laughing." I look up at him and relax a little. I pull out of his embrace walking over to the chair near the window, I sit down rocking the chair and looking up at the stars, the memory of Harry singing to me in his room when I couldn't sleep floods my mind. "I have an idea." I take a deep breath hoping that this will do the trick.

As soon as I finish the song Harry and I climb back into bed tiredness wearing us down to the point of sheer exhaustion, I curl up onto Harry's chest and close my eyes letting sleep take me away.
