"I see you have fallen right into our trap," the tied up boy sneers at us and Daniel scoffs at him, "What makes you think we've put our guard down?"
"I knew right from the start that this was a suicide mission to distract us while the other units of your gang attempt to infiltrate our warehouses for weapons, but do you really think that one of the best gangs in this city would leave their goods and land unattended? I believe that your friends are currently being taken down by our hidden snipers as we speak so if I were you, I'd cooperate so you don't end up with the same fate as them," Jenny speaks up from beside me, seriousness lacing her voice.
The look on the boy's face shows complete shock and horror at how we could have known they were launching an attack on our warehouses. Jenny had already suspected it from the very beginning and taking advantage of the distractions of the shooting, she made a quick call to the head of our security team, Jackson to be on the lookout for infiltrators and it turned out her gut instincts were right about being ambushed.
Not wanting to deal with more trouble at the moment, Jenny orders a few friends of ours from the security department to put the boy into a secured room where he cannot escape. Soft sniffling and whimpering sounds remind us of the little boy who we had completely forgotten about whilst confronting the ringleader of the suicide mission. Having a soft spot for little children, I tread slowly across the marble tiles, carefully avoiding the pieces of metal and debris caused by the fight just now and kneel down to get to his height. Smiling gently, I reach a hand out for him to take and when he does, I stand back up and lead him over to a miraculously untouched spot of the room, guiding him to sit on a velvet armchair.
Talking softly with the little boy, I find out that his name is August and his parents passed away protecting him from dangerous gangs, leaving him in the hands of those very enemies. At some point in the conversation, Daniel comes over and sits next to me, our bodies so close that I can feel the heat just radiating off him despite the warm fireplace in the room.
We bring little August into a spare guest room to stay for the night after making sure that he is not hiding any dangerous items, deeming him harmless enough to be allowed to stay since it was already late night. After tucking him into bed and cute whispers of "this is soooo comfy" from August, Jenny calls for a meeting in the living room considering how bad the condition of the dining room is and the first thing she brings up is, "Lila, please stop flirting with other gang leaders, making them fall in love with you thinking that you're a normal girl and then breaking their hearts because if this continues on, we wouldn't be able to defend ourselves from dozens of gangs even if we're one of the best here." It was a lighthearted tone that Jenny used that made us chuckle, yet at the same time we knew that she was warning Lila that if this happens again, there would be consequences and secretly I hope that would never happen, considering Jenny's history of punishments.
Author's Note:
The development of the story's plot is kind of slow for now because I'm still building the background story, but I hope you like it and leave some feedback, thanks :D
