My palms are sweaty, and my fear is palpable on the air. I'm having chest compressions. Was this a heart attack? Am I dying? Ray's going to be here in a few hours! What am I going to do?! Oh, how I wish Natasha was here to give me her wisdom or her infamous words, scratch ya ass and give it a pat. You got this. I burst into laughter. The woman was a priceless jewel.
"Mommy gone crazy!" Tyler says regarding me through large wide eyes.
"She's excited is all. It's her uncle. Why don't we give mommy some space?"
"Pirates?!" Tyler's asks.
"I'm captain!" Rachel yells racing towards the stairs.
"No, I am!" he shouts following behind her.
I was lucid. They didn't have to run away. I don't know how many times I've ran my hands across my pale cotton dress. My mouth was so dry that my tongue kept sticking to the roof of my mouth. This is crazy! My heart is racing.
"Hey." I say as Rachel returns without Tyler.
"Breathe Lee. How about letting Tyler eat in his room?" I frown as food in bedrooms is my biggest pet peeve.
"Just this one time. I'm sure you two will want to catch up."
"Fine." I say giving her hug. Shit! I say as my eyes grow round as the doorbell's ring slices through the air like a whip.
"I'm on it!" Rachel says hopping to action as she grabs the food of the counter while I shuffle slowly over towards the door.
"Ah lawd. I'm shakin now. I'm bout as bad as a piglet." I gripe placing my hand on the door hand. I unlock the door. My emotions are overwhelming me as the door swings open and my uncle's larger than life form stands there like the freaking hulk with tears in his eyes.
"Come here baby girl." He whispers with his arms outstretched.
"Ray!" I choke out jumping into his arms. I sob into his chest as his thick tree trunk arms encircle me and I feel every bit a little girl, a small child.
"Mellie, I've missed you." He whispers roughly.
"I'm fine, Ray. I'm okay. I missed you too."
He releases me and grabs my hand. I giggle.
"You know you're my favorite niece."
"I'm your only niece." I giggle as we enter in the foyer.
"Not much has change." He says. I flush remembering that this used to be Ray's home.
"It's beautiful. I didn't want to change a single thing. I love it. Thank you, Ray."
"What happened Mellie?" he asks seating himself in the large reclining chair in the great room. My hands have become the most interesting thing in the room.
"I'm sorry for breaking your trust ray."
"Hey, hey, hey! You hold your head up. There's nothing to be ashamed about. You make mistakes to learn from them. Don't ever do that." He says looking me in the eye.
