Chapter One

It's been beyond quiet since that mysterious letter appeared. Two years have past and graduation was so close, I could feel it. Derrick was off at college, but that was only a few miles from home. We all moved out of the apartment building and started adjusting to a normal life. Derrick and I had a house together, that Derrick managed to save up for. He was deeply invested in our relationship for sure.

Of course, we had our birthday celebration coming up as well. But after living in a bunker for 15 years, birthdays didn't mean much to me. Every year was the same; no freedom and bad cake. But I've had freedom for almost three years, but it hasn't made much difference. I've been hiding for so long, that I've been paranoid for so long.

But things have been normal and fine for two years.

"What's up, lady?" Reagan asked, just walking in, "Are you ready for graduation?"

"You do realize that you should probably start knocking," I replied, "Just a suggestion."

"Well, I knew that Derrick wasn't here, so it wouldn't matter."

"But he says we need to have rules in our home."

"I'm your sister, so I really don't care."

"But this is Derrick's house. We've discussed this."

"Then start locking your door next time."

"This is way off topic now."

"Because you've been so wrapped up in Derrick, all the time."

"Well, he's my fiance."

"You're not even 18 yet."

"We're not getting married for awhile. But we obviously know that we want to be together the rest of our lives. He chose me and I chose him. He loves me for me. And I love him for him. He's my babe, my one and only. I'd do anything for him and he'd do the same. I know he will."

"Well, let's get going to school," she said, "Since you don't have your Der-bear to protect you."

She was mocking me. My relationship with my sister hadn't been the greatest over the past couple years. I chose Derrick and she chose Tyler. We made our separate ways and continued like estranged siblings. We didn't act like twins, just sisters who always argued. So we kept our distance most of the time. Some days, she popped up randomly, but I never understood why. She's the one who started the fighting with me.

"Yeah, let's just go to school," I grabbed my bag and left the room.

********

She's starting fights with me again. I thought we were over this. Clearly, I was wrong.

PING: Don't stress yourself out, babe. Just focus on graduating then planning a wedding. You don't need to worry about your sister.

But who is supposed to be my maid of honor if I shouldn't worry about my sister.

D: There's always Beth.

I'm not asking your sister. That'll piss off my sister.

I paused for a second and sent a second message to Derrick.

Wait. That actually sounds like fun to piss Reagan off. Maybe I should.

D: Please don't. I don't want another war on my hands.

Well maybe I can stop living in fear of what's going to happen next if this war just happened already.
