Niall.
“I know you don’t want anything to happen, but we can be close without going further right?”
I fiddled with my fingers as she stared at me, her mouth hanging open in an oddly cute way. I wanted so badly to just lean over and kiss her. But I couldn’t. I was forever stuck in the friends zone. I hated it. I ju-
My thoughts couldn’t finish. Ellis had practically sprung over the table and planted her lips on mine, pressing hard. My hands automatically fond her face, pulling her closer as I applied pressure. Her hands locked themselves around my wrists, not letting go. This kiss was passionate, different, but amazing, all the same. Ellis’ lips suddenly left mine, leaving my mouth still puckered. I pressed my forehead onto hers, closing my eyes.
“Wow.” I breathed quietly, practically a whisper.
“Yeah.” Ellis whispered back, just as quiet.
I grabbed a hold of Ellis’ wrist and pulled her out of the seat, leaving our drinks have finished. We hastily left Costa as we’d drawn quite a bit of attention from the kiss. We walked steadily down the road amongst the dozens of busy shoppers, saying nothing but thinking everything. What did the kiss mean? Was it a goodbye kiss? No, it was desperate, a hungry kiss. Did she still like me? She hadn’t said anything. Stop over thinking.
“So..” I cleared my throat.
“Yeah.” Ellis kept her eyes ahead as she spoke, her voice quiet.
“Nice weather.” Ellis paused on the spot for a second, before exploding with laughter. I didn’t quite understand, but I laughed along nervously. She shook he head and kept walking, and I jogged slightly to keep in time with her.
“Cody and Liam, huh?” She cocked her head towards me, smiling brightly. My heart ached as she smiled, pulling on every heart string. Why was she bringing them up?
“Yeah.. I reckon they’d suit.”
“Yeah. She raves on abou him a lot.”
“He’s the same. Smiling like a scone when she texts.”
“Yeah.”
We both kept walking in silence, not knowing what else to say. I’d already said everything I could do, everything I felt. She hadn’t said a word on what she though, but that’s what kept me interested. She was a closed book, and even though I wasn’t much of a reader, I couldn’t wait to read everything about her.
Taking a risk, I moved my hand towards her, coiling my fingers around hers, clasping our palms together. Ellis didn’t pull away. Instead, she gripped tightly onto my hand, squeezing my fingers. I smiled to myself at not being rejected. I couldn’t but be a smug git sometimes. We kept strolling down the streets, hand in hand. It couldn’t have been more perfect. The sun was slowly going down, causing a warm feel over Oxford Street. There were less people around, not so busy, we pretty much had the streets to ourselves. I decided to take this opportunity to get inside Ellis’ head.
“So what does this mean?” I turned my head to face her, a half smile playing on my lips. “Are we friends?”
“Yeah. Friends.” She returned the smile, her face glowing in the sunset.
“Are we anything more?” I swallowed hard, waiting on an answer. My hand started to shake slightly, but Ellis gave it a small squeeze, easing my nerves. Her smile spread to a cheeky gaze, as she bit on he lip. Her shoulda flailed into a shrug, and she stared ahead again.
“Who knows.” Ellis once again faced me, batting her eyelashes. “We’ve got time.”
