Authors notes: yay next chapter probably should get out of bed and do something with my life but nah.
Derki was lying in bed not wanting to face what is out side his bed sheets. He either has the choice of facing his most likely disappointment parents, who where probably at this moment waiting for him to come out of his room to see if he had finally had that growth spurt that they have so desperately been waiting for.
Or he could sneak out the window, he did not choose the latter and thought it would just be best to get it over and done with.He climbed out of bed to face the cold crisp air of a winter's morning hitting him like a truck almost making him fall over. He quickly reached for his waist coat in hopes he could smother away the cold. He then slowly walks towards the door of his room, opened it and stepped out.
When he got to the kitchen he expected to hear a large sigh of another disappointment from his parents but never came and he realised that they had a late hunt that night and now they were probably fast asleep dreaming of Valhalla. It would be a under statement to say Derki was slightly revealed, he was almost crying with joy that he didn't have to face their disappointed faces today.
Derki went over to the only pot in the kitchen to find there was some of that nights left over dinner in it -may i add, that fact there is any left over dinner at all was shocking like seriously his parents ate everything that was eatable- he grabbed a bowl of the stew and sat at one of the old, wonky chairs they had lying around their average sized hut.
Just as he had finished his soup he heard the door to the kitchen squeak open and in came his father and mother. His father was quite large and muscular with flaming red hair, as well as deep blue eyes. The same could be said about his mother but where he had blue eyes she had a duel green almost grey.
When they looked over at there son they did the long disappointed sigh. Derki hated how every morning he would wake up and disappoint his parents. Why couldn't they just let him be who he is in stead of trying to change him?
"Hi mum, hi dad" he said trying not to look at there faces.
"Morning son, I see that you managed to find breakfast without us" his father said with a somewhat bearable voice.
His mother and father went over to the pot and grabbed a bowl of stew each, then sat down.
"My boy you should really eat more you need to grow up nice and strong" his father said whilst shovelling food into his mouth.
"This is was my second bowl" sure that was a lie but Derki didn't need to tell his parents that.
"Good on you Derki" this time it was his mother who spook "I'm sure you're going to be a very strong boy one day."
That line had been repeated everyday since Derki was 4 years of age now he is 13 years old. Can you imagine what that would be like, your parents telling that one day you might be normal. But for Derki he didn't even care anymore he had already heard that line about 3,276 times possibly more.
Derki stood up to go put his bowl away, when his father said "by the way you will be going to the beast hunting school for young vikings today"
At those words Derki lit up like a candle he turned to his father with huge grin on his face and said "what time does it start?!"
Seeing how his boy had reacted made Arrick -which was the name of Derki's father- grin like a maniac "well my boy it starts at noon right after lunch."
Was just about to jump out the door with joy when he turned around and said "thank you" and leaped out the door forgetting to close it behind him as he ran down the path to the main part of the village.
