(Over in the Guards' Quarters..)
You sat on a vacant couch with a plain white tee that hangs past your thighs and a pair of grey sweats that were triple knots just to stay on your waist—given to you by Vance—who couldn't stand the fact that you were sobbing so hard. It wasn't the fact that you were crying that bothered him. But just how loud your snot-filled sniffles irked him.
Neither of them could think of a proper reason as to why you were shivering out of your mind in front of M'Baku's doors.
Your hands fell in of your lap as you breathe in slowly before looking up at the eyes of your friends. The look on their faces made you shift your gaze down to the wooden floors.
Kaelee took a seat beside you, her gentle touch hovering over knuckles as she grabbed them with a sense of reluctancy. She pulled them into her lap as you pushed your head onto her shoulder. Her fingers began to stroke away the loose hairs around your forehead, her actions mimicking those of a mother.
Vance, who was clearly annoyed that you haven't said anything about how you ended up in front of M'Baku's room door naked, was pacing back and forth.
"So? Are you going to explain yourself, (Y/N)?"
Not bothering to move from your spot, you gave a gentle nod. You picked at pieces of loose furs on Kaelee's uniform before letting out a shaky sigh.
"M-M'Baku and I.. We.. He.. I.. We.."
You tried again after breathing. "After you and Zane dropped me off to M'Baku's, I patched him up like you guys told me to do."
Vance nodded, twirling a finger for you to explain further. "I'm aware of our drop off. And?"
"And it was a whirlwind of emotions in that room. He told me about Warrior Falls and T'Challa telling him not to be such an idiot and be here for the Jabari tribe. And he told me that he was in love with me—"
"We know," Vance cut you off impatiently with the tap from his foot. "I told him to confess. Fast forward past the sex, sex, and wouldn't you know—more sex!" You furrowed your brows with a frown.
You brought your arms into your chest and said, "So, we woke up this morning and talked our heads off. He asked me if I wanted to be exclusive, I obviously agreed. Then Zane came in and told M'Baku that his mother is here, but get this—with another woman! She's playing matchmaker for Bast's sake!"
"So you left because M'Baku's mother was setting him up? But aren't you together?" Vance asked.
You shook your head, earning a look from Kaelee and Vance.
"No, he wants me to be a secret. Can you believe it? A secret!"
Vance makes an 'O' with his lips and finally seats himself in the chair placed in front of you, legs spawned out in the open before he runs a hand down his face. The pieces of the puzzle began to fall into place, one by one.
"You're joking. Lover boy fucked it up by saying you were his dirty little secret."
You nodded furiously and threw your hands up in the air. Your words came across like acid when you said, "Do I look like a mistress to you!? After everything we did last night, you would think he had the common decency to tell me in bed! And if he thinks I'm going to sleep with him behind his new wife's back, he has ANOTHER thing coming!"
Kaelee chuckled lowly while giving your arm a reassuring rub. "So, that's why you were crying? Because you felt that the Chief was ashamed of you?"
