[Ch 8] Body Guard Guys and A Possibly Dangerous Meeting
Jace's POV
A broad man with a stiff jaw and mostly shaved head ushers me forward. I hold Carly's hand, and she stands slightly behind me. I cant blame her, I 'm pretty intimidated by everyone in the room, too. (Not that I would ever own up to that.)
We're in a large lounge area, with big couches and too-white carpet. Carly and I are standing in front of a receptionists desk, with an impatient body guard guy frowning at the lady behind the window while she talks on the phone. I'm guessing that she's speaking to whoever we're supposed to see.
Finally, the woman on the telephone hangs up (without so much as a goodbye) and nods at the Body Guard Guy. Telephone Woman glances over at us and just shakes her head, tutting.
I continue to stand there dumbly. I can feel the eyes of the other people in the room watching Carly and I (there must be about twelve other people in the room, half of them body guards. Assuming its the body guards that wear black suits).
Body Guard Guy ushers us forward, barely looking at us. I let him lead us through as small door and down a sterile white hallway. We turn left, the right, the left again. I try to memorize all the exits because you never know.
Carly's grip on my wrist has become tighter the farther we walk. We stop and I think we're there, but we're just waiting in front of an elevator.
When we had been at the movies, I had been quite bored during the movie. Heck, now I would do anything to go back there. After Park (can I even actually call him my brother?) arrived, he left just as suddenly, leaving us with the body guards and me with his haunting voice and the words “hello, brother.” Body Guard Guy had taken us to his long, black car and said, “The girl can stay.” That would've been Carly's chance to leave, but she had insisted on coming. I could feel her doubting her choice now.
The ding of the elevator opening shakes Carly, and she jumps slightly. I try not to chuckle. I really like Carly. And not in that way either. Just as a friend- well, more of a sister. Although I would find it hard to believe if someone told us we were siblings separated at birth. Honestly, Carly is too sweet and hyper to be anything like me.
Body Guard Guy motions for us to get in before him, and we oblige. He steps in after us. I look at our reflection in the elevator walls. Body Guard Guy is standing slightly in front of me and to the side.
I try not to stare at him in the reflection too much because who knows where he's looking. His ridiculous black sunglasses hide any wondering of his eyes; that's probably why he wears them. Or maybe its just a body guard thing. I need to get myself some.
Body Guard Guy's phone beeps in his pocket- or maybe its some sort of spy/guard pager/walkie talkie thing, who knows- and he pulls it out to check it. He reads the message, then puts the phone/walkie talkie/pager back in his pocket without replying.
I think about shoving Carly out of the elevator once we get to the correct floor and telling her to run for her life. I don't want to get her involved in anything. Even if she has sort of volunteered to come, I'd still blame myself. You can't trust anything with Park.
I heave out a sigh when the elevator dings and the doors slowly slide open.
Time to meet my- or should I say our- fate.
hmmm i havent written in Jace's POV in a while, suprise! I might not be able to update for a week or two after this, sorry. XOXO jessica
