This is a story I am rewriting, so bare with me.
Preface:
I was walking towards the car when my baby sister called out to me from the front door, "Jace, wait up."
I turned and watched as she skipped down to me, her blonde ringlets bouncing upon her bony shoulders. Shaking my head I smiled, "Why so happy kiddo?"
Shrugging she stopped at my side, "No reason just happy to get out of the house."
As she spoke I looked back at our modest one story house, it was an old house that had been renovated to give it new life and my mother adored it. I turned back when I realised that Becky, my sister, had continued with our conversation without me. I hoped she hadn't caught me and luckily she was so excited about going to the beach that she hadn't skipped a beat. "Sadly dad has to come. I just wish for once he would stay home and not ruin a family outing, since you two always end up fighting."
Sighing I threw my arm over her shoulder. "Not my fault he's a dick."
She jokingly elbowed me in the gut, "No swearing or I'll wash your mouth out with soap."
Grinning I ruffled her hair and said "Yes mum."
We were both laughing by the time we reached the car; mum looked up at us smiling, her blue eyes shining. Dad on the other hand, was glaring at us, "Will you two hurry up. I want to get on the highway before the traffic hits."
Rolling my eyes I opened the car door and stepped back to let Becky slide in before me, then I followed behind her. By the time we hit the road to the coast the tension in the car was unbearable, so to distract myself I began tapping away at my thighs, to a beat in my head. I felt my father's heavy gaze on me from the review mirror and looked up in time to meet his glare as he said, "Boy if you don't bloody stop that now I'm going to pull over and beat the shit out of you."
I guess I should have stoped there but for some reason I enjoyed taunting him. So I began tapping my feet against the back of his seat, along to the imaginary beat. Finally losing it, my father turned in his seat, let go of the stirring wheel and grabbed me by the collar of my shirt. "You little ungrateful bastard, I work to put a roof over your head and food on your plate, but no, you don't give a shit you just have to keep pushing me, don't you."
For the first time ever, I felt what real, deep down fear was like. Not because the bastard I call my father was threatening me, no he beat the crap out of me and mum all the time, because in his eyes I was a freak of nature, a monster that could heal at a much quicker rate then humanly possible, and my mother was the one who had given birth to me. No I wasn't scared of that, I was scared because we were doing 150 in a 100 zone and we were getting really close to the truck in front of us, a truck that had its brake lights on.
Everything after that moment kind of went into slow motion, mum screamed dads name, tires screeched as my father attempted to slam on the brakes, the smell of burning rubber, my screaming family; it was all just too much. Then we collided with the 5 ton truck, the whole front half of the car smashed in on its self, slamming me forward in my seat causing my head to hit the seat in front of me and a searing pain ran up my spine as I heard a loud crack. I could feel blood pouring down my face from my nose and ears, indicating that I had internal bleeding, but that didn't worry me. I needed to know if my family were alright.
I looked around me at the chaos, blinking to clear the smoke from my eyes I saw my father with a piece of metal pinning his head to the car seat, blood pooling out of the wound. I turned away to see my mother's blonde hair soaked in blood and her blue eyes, the same blue eyes as mine, dull and lifeless as a wound on her head seeped blood. Swallowing the bile that had risen up my throat, I looked to my right to see my Becky, my baby sister, all crumpled in on herself. I could see that her body was broken, but I didn't want to admit it. I tried to move towards her but the pain in my back hit me with such a force that I was left breathless. My eyes rolled back in my head, and the last thing I head were sirens, and then the darkness took over.
