CHAPTER ONE

01 | unedited

This chapter will mostly focus on Bella - her P.O.V and thoughts on things, though it's still written in Third Person.

IT WAS AN EXCRUCIATINGLY UNCOMFORTABLE period. Jasper Hale was staring at Aviona like she was the scum under his designer shoes, and Aviona Knightley was glaring at Jasper like he stole the last piece of pizza in the box when she called dibs on it. As soon as she sat down, he had moved away from her and sat on the extreme edge of his chair, his pale hands clutching tightly onto the corners of their table. He didn't turn his head away, but he did glare at her which was more annoying than he had thought it to be.

He grimaced, his nose turned up, as though he smelled something bad. Aviona lowly growled at him and scowled, which didn't phase him. She was getting the idea of just what he was, so she turned her braid to her right shoulder, exposing her neck to him. It was risky but it worked. He let out a low growl himself and turned away, placing a hand over his nose as if that would stop the smell. Aviona smirked, knowing just what he was - she needed to touch him now to find out if he was as cold as ice.

Aviona purposely knocked her pen to his so that his would fall to the floor. It did since he didn't notice it had fallen before. She bent over to pick it up at the same time he did, and their arms brushed together. Jasper froze and stared at her, noticing their close proximity. He involuntarily took a breath, which was a very bad move, and he quickly moved away back to the edge of his seat. Aviona looked back down with a smirk as she took his blue fountain pen and placed it back on the table.

It was confirmed.

He was frigid, colder than a glacier of ice.

She also noticed that his eyes had golden flecks, which meant he was one of those vampires who had a different lifestyle than the others. Inside her mother's journal, there were pages meant for them; the 'vegetarian' vampires. They were predatory creatures that ignored their savage, predator ways and thirst for human blood. Their substitute for that type of blood was animals. They drank animal blood instead of human blood, which would explain why the Cullen's and Hale's can stand to be in a place full of people.

It looked to her that Jasper Hale was the newest and latest member of their coven. He couldn't quite control his thirst for human blood, and that could mean he had had it before. He drank human blood before. His accent was country, but there was a slight twang. How old was he, really?

Aviona plopped her chin on her open palm, her elbow propped on the their black-topped table. She observed his features; he had a really strong jaw; his chin was titled upward, creating a small indent under his luscious pink lips; his eyes were cat-like, wide with irises too big for them but they went well with his stunning features; he had high cheekbones, sharp and could cut like a knife; his forehead was wide, tendrils of his hair flopped at the sides; his nose was perfectly slender and pointed.

Her eyes travelled downward to his arms, which were lean but muscly. But now, when not comparing him to his burly brother, he had muscles that bulged out of his shirt. He had on a white flannel shirt that was rolled up above his elbows, which showed the biceps and triceps of his muscular arms.

Her eyes roamed upward again and saw that he was staring at her, though now his gaze wasn't antagonistic. He looked expectant and curious, but there was a slight smirk on his pink lips. Avi kept her face blank, even though inside she was dying from embarrassment; he had just caught her checking him out! She was checking hin out, right? God, she can't remember. What was wrong with her?
