Get lost. Lily wished that was what she said, but, she asked Jean to go out of the Bugle office and complete the List instead. "It's time. Go out and do it."

The List was a campus listing of the popular people in Fram Hill High. Every school year, the Bugle conducted a survey and the results would be published usually a week after.

The deadline - tomorrow night. Input - blank. Process - Jean's mouth. Output - forget about it.

Jean said, "Oh, come on. I still have the entire afternoon tomorrow to do it. Right now, I have other plans." Lily got distracted by Jean's stunning red hair. She always envied her friend because of it, and, on the other hand, Jean loved it that she did.

Tossing her hair, the red head said, "Let me take my off today, Lil."

Nice try distracting me. Lily thought.

"No. It can't wait and you know that." Lily sat and tried to sort out all her feature articles submitted for next week's paper. She still had to write her own editorial and hadn't come up with an idea what it was; she thought that she should write about how terrible Physimper's class was - Mr. Simper's Physics class. "Jean, please don't make me worry about the paper especially the List. You know that the whole Fram Hill High is waiting for it. And, I'm dying here because I have this Physics assignment and, guess what, it's due today. Physimper is killing me." She was still not sure if whatever she did in the assignment was correct.

"Oh. Since he is already killing you, you can just play dead. You know," and she winked. The she-devil, she was. She leaned in to Lily and said, "Please, chum, I promise I'll do it tomorrow."

Before Lily could reply, someone knocked on the office's door. "Oh yeah, come in." She thought it must be Duncan Sail, a friend and the Bugle's Editor in Chief. If he was here, he could help her get rid of Jean's procrastination and get her ass to work. However, it was a moot option. Why? It was because....

"Hi!" Now, Lily knew why Jean had other plans today. Frank Bosworth, who she thought, for a second there, was such a hottie with his blond boy looks and a footballer lean body, was the plan, and he just made everything impossible for her. She looked at Jean and raised an eyebrow.

"Uh. Lil, I guess you know Bosworth, right?" She gave Lily this silly look. Was she kidding her? Of course, Lily knew him - the football team's most popular blond jerk and Jean Appleton's ultimate crush. She could see Jean blushing.

She looked at Bosworth, and he had this smirk, a cute yet annoying one. Well, she had to admit that he was good-looking, not really good-looking; he was way too good-looking if you asked her. However, he was a jerk - who had drooling fan girls - and she always felt that he did not like her. "Um. Appleton invited me for a little chat this afternoon and told me it has to do with the Bugle. This may be one of the only few occasions that you get to do interviews right. I remember you guys used to eavesdrop in the team's locker room. Or is it in the shower?" He grinned even more.

Oh. That made Lily blush. It was not really a secret that the Bugle did some eavesdropping; but the shower room? Ok. She did but that was before she became one of the senior writers; it was in her first and second years in high school. The editor that time was still Duncan's older sister, Becca, and she was so bossy and nosy. Heck, Lily bet that Becca asked her to do all those because she wanted to pry on the football team captain; that time, it was still Kerr Hapman.

And what was this? Did she hear him right? A chat for the Bugle? What the heck! Lily shot Jean a questioning stare, and, in return, she just shrugged and said, "Lily and I were just talking about the chat with you. We could do it somewhere else, right Lil?"

She didn't give Lily time to say something and said, "We can do it in the library."

Well, Bosworth was Bosworth. "Library would be nice since I am not really in the mood to handle fan girls today." He shrugged and went to exit the office. "I'll wait outside."

"What is this?" She asked Jean. "Don't tell me that this is your idea of 'getting to know' Frank Bosworth."

"Lil, I have been waiting for this since summer. You know how much I like him. Just today," she pleaded like a fan girl, oh boy, and kissed Lily on the right cheek. "I know you love me."

"And I hate myself that I do." Shaking her head, Lily told her, "I guess I have to save your ass again from Duncan. I may be the senior writer but he is still the boss." She embraced her.

She looked for her tote bag, grabbed it, and headed for the door. "I love you too, Lil." She winked at her friend, her eyes as green as emeralds. "And always remember, you are the best sidekick." Then, she was gone.

Oh my apple! Did she just call her a sidekick? Lily could only smile at the thought. She was supposed to be the boss and not the other way around. Well, she guessed she had to do the survey herself then. She knew that Jean always kept her promise and that she would do the survey tomorrow but Lily did not want to risk getting late for the deadline. To hell with her Physics assignment and to hell with Mr. Simper because he made Physics sound like a brain tumor or a brain hemorrhage. She shook her head and sighed.

So, she grabbed her stuff - bag, notebook, the Physics assignment, and the survey questionnaire - and headed out for the door. She had decided that Physics could wait; who wanted to die of "Physicsilitis" or of Physics brain collapse anyway?

Certainly, not her.
