I waited for the doors to shut tightly before slinking back down the ceiling archways off the floor. I tightened the strap on my satchel to keep the crown concealed inside from jangling around my hips. My feet touched the ground lightly. I had stolen the crown, now all I needed to do was get to the passageway that lead right out of the castle, in the corridor just feet away from the entrance to the dungeons.
Running as swiftly and quietly as I could through the never ending corridors, my heart pumped faster than it ever had in my life. This was my last chance to show the King exactly what pain and suffering was. I was almost, only a hall away...when I heard voices coming towards me.
My heart froze and I knew I had to think quickly. Shaking slightly, I scurried up the wall onto the ceiling. I clung onto arch and focused on keeping my breathing quiet. 2 figures stalked through, one was cloaked, so I couldn't really see him from above. A soldier, dressed in light armor and red clothing, followed behind him.
"Your Majesty should be in his rooms, the King has ordered it" he said nervously, as if he was afraid of being struck. He had said Your Majesty...but that wasn't the King. Was it the prince? Prince Whatshisname...Mason, I think."Markus, I know what my father has ordered; I just need to make sure my sister is okay. You people frighten her to no end when these giant search parties are bursting into every room in the castle, chasing an insignificant thief!"
"Insignificant thief?!"
"Oh yeah? Well you're next Mr. High And Mighty Prince!" I thought to myself.I rescanned the mental map of the castle I had in my head, trying to remember where Princess Cassandra's rooms were....the next floor!
"Hurry up, stupid vampyr!" I screamed inside my head.
"Do you smell something?" he suddenly asked.
My heart stopped. "No! NO YOU DON'T!!!"
"Smells like....blood.”
I began to shake. If I shook any harder I'd fall to the ground.
"I think you smell the Halfies in their cells" Markus said. Halfies are half vampyr, half humans, humans who didn't transform completely. Their hearts still pump blood, but it's like artificial blood. It doesn't exactly satisfy, but because almost all humans are gone vampyrs rely on the blood of Halfies and animals.
I breathed a silent sigh of relief, praying that they would leave soon. I closed my eyes and started to count, something I haven't done since I was 8. I used to do it whenever I got scared or impatient.
"HEY YOU!"
"AHH!!!" I screamed, letting go off the ceiling...
Falling....
Falling....
WHAM!
My back and head screamed and throbbed with pain. I had landed on pure, cold, hard, marble floor. Right in front of the vampyr prince and his guard.
Not. Good.
I didn't want to open my eyes, but I knew I had to. I had to fight my way out; I had to...do something.
My eyes fluttered open, looking right into a pair of pale, icy, blue eyes. Mason.
"Are you okay?" he asked in a soft, sweet voice coated in honey and concern. I couldn't speak. Couldn't move. I wanted to lay there and stare at his eyes forever....
"GET A GRIP ON YOURSELF!" my conscience screamed at me, "HE'S A BLOODSUCKING PARASITE! HIS FATHER KILLED YOUR PARENTS!!! HE'S GOING TO KILL YOU TOO IF YOU DON'T GET UP!!!!"
