AUTHOR'S NOTE: Whenever the title says His then it's Mason's point of view. When it's Her then its Elowyn :) thank you so much for reading, please leave comments about what I should change, or if you have any ideas, stuff like that! :D
I crept back up the stairs to my rooms, thinking intensely about what had just happened.
I couldn't believe I was actually doing this. My father was going to have my head. But...this was the right thing to do. I didn't quite understand why I was even doing this. Thieves broke into the castle all the time, they get executed and I don't give them a moment’s thought.
"She isn't just a thief, Mason. She's a human girl who’s been through a lot. Maybe even more then you. You saw the way she cried in her sleep, the way she looked at you when you saw you. She's just scared, angry. You heard her ’Mom, dad, come back! It's going to be okay...it'll be okay!' the poor girl has been through something” said my small inner voice. I really hated that guy sometimes.
I knew my father would kill me, but this was the right thing to do. Before I entered my rooms, I passed by Cassandra's door. I entered quietly and swiftly, expecting to see Cassandra fast asleep on her bed. Instead, there she was, dressed in her night gown, at her window, staring at the moon.
"What you're doing is right" she said in her airy voice. I wasn't surprised that she knew. Cassandra was sort of...connected to the universe. She knew things. The future, the past, the present.
When humans were still living with vampyrs, the king and queens would take a child or two from a human mother. They would turn them into a vampyrs while they are babies. Vampyr babies age until they turn eighteen or so. The latest a vampyr has ever aged was about thirty. I'm 17, Cassandra is 13.
The King and Queen found an ailing pregnant woman, pregnant with Cassandra. I was only 4 years old. Our father was already dead. The Queen helped her give birth and then bit us. Our mother died in the hour, thanking the Queen, my new mother.
"What makes you say that?" I asked Cassandra.
"She's going to change you. Everything. The world. She's already changed you."
I have her curious look. "How?"
She smiled. "You already know."
"No, I don't. Just tell me."
"She's special. Especially to you" My heart almost stopped. I knew exactly what she was getting at.
"Cassandra...are you saying I'm going to fall in love with her?" I asked patiently.
She giggled. "I didn't say that. She's going to change things. Make things better" she answered simply.
I blinked.
"Goodnight Cassandra" I said, walking over to hug her. Her crazy, wild, fire red hair is out.
"Did you take your pins out again?" I asked. It took hours in the morning for her chambermaids to get her hair up and out of the way, but Cassandra didn't like her hair being pulled on.
"Maybe."
I went over to her vanity and grabbed a hair tie. "Here" I said, pulling her hair into a lose bun, "so you don't choke on your hair in the morning" I laughed. Hugging her again, we said goodnight and I went to my room.
I couldn't stop thinking about what she said, what I was going to do and Elowyn. In one night my whole life had changed. All because of a girl.
"Girls are trouble, stay away from them!" I recall my best friend, Adam, saying. He had been dating one of the cooks, a girl named Alice and they had been having problems. I smiled; remembering him walking passed me in a huff, covered in the water Alice had dumped on him. I forget the reason, but either way it was funny.
