Naru left Kakashi's apartment before he was awake the next morning. How a ninja, and a jounin at that, could sleep through Naru's breakfast-making and door-slamming she had no idea. Either way, she soon navigated to the Konoha Academy. The Hokage had said she could join a team if she wanted, and it seemed as good a way as any to pass her time. Besides, genin rarely got dangerous missions.
Following the sounds of excited chatter, Naru made her way to what she guessed was a classroom, knocking on the door. It slid open a moment later. A slightly older man's voice said, "Can I help you?"
"Um, is this where the graduating genin are?" Naru asked, suddenly worried she had shown up in the wrong place.
"Yes. I'm Iruka Umino, the sensei for this class. And you are?"
"Naru Senshi. The Hokage told me I could join a genin team when I returned to Konoha."
"... I see. Well, you're in luck. There's one team in need of a third member."
"Thank you, Iruka-sensei."
Iruka stepped out of the doorway, and Naru followed him into the classroom. "Class, this is Naru Senshi. She will be joining you all today in getting assigned to a genin team."
"Tch."
Naru angled her head towards the noise. "Teme? Is that you?"
"Shut up, dobe," Sasuke said. "What're you doing here?"
"Joining a genin team. Didn't you hear what Iruka-sensei just said?" Naru smiled. She supposed Sasuke wasn't so bad. He just had a bit of an attitude. Honestly, he reminded her a little bit of Kankuro.
"Take a seat, Naru," Iruka said. "I was just about to read the team assignments."
Naru nodded, slowly making her way through the tiered rows of desks.
"T-There's an extra s-seat b-by me," a girl stuttered quietly. Naru smiled gratefully and slid into the seat next to the voice. "I-I'm Hinata, H-Hinata Hyuga."
"Naru Senshi. Nice to meet you."
"Oh, uh, you too, N-Naru."
Naru settled into her seat as Iruka started calling out names. It wasn't until he reached Team 7 that her own was called, along with Sasuke's and someone named Sakura Haruno. Naru wondered who she was, but the excited squealing that had happened after Sakura's name was called didn't seem to bode well.

Team 7 was soon the only group left waiting for their jounin sensei. It gave Naru an odd sense of deja vu. In any case, she had a pretty good idea of who their sensei would be. And, sure enough, Kakashi showed up a while later.
"Hey, guys, sorry I'm late... Naru? This is where you went?"
"Hehehe, hi, Kakashi-san," Naru smiled, rubbing the back of her head. "Who would've thought you'd be my sensei, huh?"
"Do you even have any training as a shinobi?"
Naru couldn't help but frown at the question. "Of course. My parents taught me. So did my friends and some of my parents' friends."
"You mean you never attended an Academy?" Sakura-- Naru figured it had to be her as there were no other girls in the room-- sounded surprised.
Naru shrugged. "No."
"Then where were you when you weren't in Konoha?" Sasuke spoke up, although he still sounded like he was brooding.
"Well, I was gonna say we could do introductions on the roof, but I guess here is fine," Kakashi sighed, followed by the scrape of a chair as he sat down. "Naru, sounds like you're first."
"I was in Suna," Naru said simply. "I lived there from right before I turned six until right after I turned twelve."
"Then why are you back here?" Sakura again, only she seemed suspicious this time instead of surprised.
"Hokage-sama said I had to come back for at least a year."
"Why join a genin team? You're supposed to be loyal to the village to be one of its shinobi." That question and statement were Sasuke's.
Naru shrugged again. "I need something to do for a year. Hokage-sama said I could join a genin team before I even left for Suna."
"Alright, enough of this now," Kakashi said. "Instead, we're all going to list likes, dislikes, dreams, and hobbies. Naru, since we're already talking about you..."
"I think you should go first, Kakashi-sensei," Sakura interjected. "It's only fair that we get to know our sensei."
"Fine, fine," Kakashi said. "I'm Kakashi Hatake. I have likes and dislikes. Sure, I have a dream. As for hobbies, well, I have a few."
"That was useless," Naru said. "Although I suppose that's the point." She frowned a bit before settling into a neutral expression. "I'm Naru Senshi. My likes are not here, most of my dislikes are. My dream is to return to my family in Suna in a year. Hobbies... Well, I enjoy researching seals, I suppose."
"You with the pink hair," Kakashi said, an indication that Sakura was next. Naru found it interesting that the girl had pink hair, but she supposed Karasu's was blue so it wasn't that odd.
"Well, my name is Sakura Haruno. I like a lot of things but only a specific person... I dislike a few things and several people... I have a couple different dreams, but the one related to this would have to be becoming a strong kunoichi who's capable of getting a specific person's interest." Naru was pretty sure everyone present knew exactly who she meant. "My hobbies include reading about Konoha's history and studying different jutsus."
Kakashi sounded mildly surprised when he said, "Very nice, Sakura." Naru agreed. It certainly wasn't what she had expected the other girl to say. "Brooding boy, you're up."
"Sasuke Uchiha," Sasuke said. His tone of voice confirmed for Naru that he was, indeed, still brooding. "I don't particularly like anything, and I dislike plenty of things, especially a certain person. My dream is more of an ambition that I plan to achieve, and it's to kill that certain person. I don't have time for hobbies."
"That sounds awful," Naru piped up.
"Shut up, dobe."
"Make me, teme."
"And that's enough of that!" Kakashi clapped his hands together. "Survival test tomorrow morning at Training Ground Seven. Be there by seven. Don't eat breakfast, or you'll regret it." He left.
Naru laughed. "Team Seven, at Training Ground Seven, at seven in the morning?" Sasuke and Sakura didn't seem to share her amusement. Naru stood up. "Guess I'd better head back. Don't worry; I'll make sure he's on time tomorrow morning." She gave a small wave then made her way out the door.
