I hear a creaking noise from the door. It’s dark in here. The stars and moon aren’t out tonight. Just the dark clouds of a rain storm. I slightly open my eyes. I haven’t fallen asleep. I’ve just been lying here in my thoughts. I try to see if its him or is it just the hollow door opening. I wait to see which theory it is. The door opens more and he walks in. I freeze and close my eyes. I pretend to sleep. I don’t want to do anything that could get me in trouble. His footsteps get a tiny bit louder as he walks over towards me. I still lay there listening to his footsteps. Once he is right by the bed, and me, he just stands there. No movement and the only sound I hear is his soft breathing. I don’t know if I should be freaked out. Is he watching me sleep? My question escapes my mind when I feel the touch of his gentle hands caress my left cheek. I still don’t move. I don’t want to ruin this. The touch of his hands some what ease me into wanting to sleep.
His soft stroke of his caress makes me feel warm inside. I don’t want to, but I can’t help it. I don’t know if I should pretend to wake up or keep fake sleeping. My debate is settle when his hand leaves me face.
“Wait.” I softly say.
He stops in mid turn and looks back to me as my eyes slowly open. I don’t know why my mouth decided to open. I do and don’t want him to stay or leave. I just don’t know. He says nothing and waits for me say something. My mouth is trying to say ‘don’t go,’ but my mind is fighting against it. He just waits for another response. The battle comes to an end when the words fall out my mouth and into the room. He turns back around to me.
“Don’t….” I pause.
“Go?” He asks as he fills in my sentence.
“Yeah..”
I feel so ashamed to admit to that, but as soon as he sits me up and caresses my cheek again I feel alright. I stare back into his green eyes and feel the feeling of connection again. I know he feels it to because his eyes twinkle.
“Can’t sleep?” He asks.
I nod as his hands goes from caressing my cheek to pulling my hair back behind my ear.
“Wanna talk about it?”
“I don’t know.”
He then leans forward in plants his soft lips on my forehead. He holds his lips there for a minute. My stomach feels so weird. My hands rest on my legs, but grab on to my shorts and squeezes tightly. He leans back.
“I know things may be weird and hard for you, but…” He trails off.
I wait for him to finish his train of thought, but he doesn’t. I don’t know what to say.
“But you care?” I ask.
He sighs and looks deeper into my eyes.
“As weird as it may seem, yeah. I care about you. I have for a while.”
My eyes widen. He cares about me? For how long? Before or after I did what I did. How could he care about me?
“I’ll let that sit in your mind.”
His hand leaves my face and he turns away to the door. As he walks away my mind now screams to come back and stay and my mouth doesn’t say a thing. He closes the door behind him leaving me with the confusion of his words.
How could he care about me? How does him kidnapping me show he cares about me? Why? Does he not blame me for what I did? I do. Is this a trick? It can’t be. He feels the connection. What even is this connection? I don’t know the answers to these questions, but all I know that his touch and sight ease me in ways I never knew I could feel at peace. I have to change that. At least try to.
