Interlude: Infiltrator

Felicia gasped as the man’s hand struck her face. She spun to the ground, eyes watering as her check throbbed.

“Why didn’t you tell me they had the boy!” Her father yelled, stooping down in front of her and grabbing her shirt. “Your brother was never supposed to lay eyes on him!”

“My brother is a worm. Unpleasant but able to wiggle his way into things without us being able to stop him. The boy is still alive. That’s all that matters.” Felicia struggled to her feet and stared down her father. They hadn’t gotten along ever since it got out that she had had a child with a Slayer. He still demanded respect from her, however, and she wasn’t about to cross him.

“We need the boy though. Why did you just leave him there?”

“I couldn’t very well carry him out of the house with thirty of our kind watching.” Her anger flared and she could feel her teeth elongating. It didn’t help that she could still smell Gage’s blood on her clothes. He was kin but that didn’t matter to her animal instincts.

Her father huffed, pacing the room. “You could have called me.”

"I didn’t feel the need to start a war on such a nice day.” She said sardonically, venom dripping from her words.

“You will not speak to me in such a way.” He growled, turning to face her.

Felicia held her head up. “I will speak in any way I find suit. I am not your servant.”

“You are my daughter.” Her father whispered, coming closer.

“Only in the physical sense. Blood is the only thing that ties us now.” She turned, crossing her arms over her chest.

"I was not the one that made you choose to procreate with one of their kind."

"You could have accepted me.”

He snorted. “I have not killed you. I think that is acceptance, is it not?”

She rolled her eyes which was lost on her father since she was staring at the wall.

“Felicia, you are very dear to me. The one thing to remind me of your mother. I wouldn’t want to lose you.”

“And yet you chose another mate and had that abomination of a step-brother.” She snarled.

“You know I needed a male in the line.”

She spun. “Back to this again! Am I not good enough for you?”

“I needed someone who could carry on the family name.”

Felicia laughed. “And yet your ‘son’ chose to keep his mother’s name. Looks like that little plan backfired didn’t it?

Her father’s face became impassive as he stared down his daughter. “We should not be discussing this right now. It is of the utmost importance that you get the boy and bring him here. Tell the men where he is and go with them to make sure they get there. What is the use of a spy if she is not going to do her job correctly?”

Felicia huffed. “I can do more than just spy, father.”

“I wouldn’t want to lose you.”

“Oh, really? Too bad you already have. A long time ago.” With that, Felicia walked out of the room and into the foyer of his house.

The front door was still open as she had left it in her hurry to report to her father. She closed it as she passed and walked into the kitchen. The human servant was sitting at the table, looking as he always did. Pale, the only source of color on him being the two burgundy holes on his neck and the deep purple circles under his eyes. He barely looked up as Felicia entered the kitchen, only automatically tilting his head to the side and closing his eyes.

Felicia frowned and walked past him, placing her hand on his head and kissing him on the forehead as she passed.

In the living room Felicia grabbed the phone and pressed the red button next to all the numbers. The phone beeped once, indicating for her to speak.

“Gather the men and brace for war. We’re going in.”
