Ellie and Bella sat in a secluded corner of the library. Though there wasn't anyone within earshot of them, they kept to hushed voices.
"Okay," Ellie whispered, "so repeat that back to me?" She asked. Arrabella rolled her eyes.
"It's simple, if our fathers find out, we tell them that we're undercover.""Look, Father," Ellie started, "I don't love Arrabella." She stated blankly.
"I know who her father is! I've always known." The look upon both John and Sherlock's aces were priceless. They looked at her expectedly,
"She doesn't know that I know. She's undercover as my girlfriend to get information on you, so I'm undercover as her girlfriend to both get information on her father but also to feed er lies about you." Ellie explained quickly, reciting what her beloved Bella had taught her to say all that time ago.The room was silent for many minutes before John breathed out, "brilliant." Ellie giggled and rolled her eyes. The two then turned to Sherlock expecting him to come to the same conclusion. He did not.
"Undercover?" He near screamed, causing Ellie to rise from her seat and step back. The two now stood facing each other, Sherlock's breath uneven and heavy. Ellie swallowed her fear and stood her ground.
"Yes," she spat back, "I'm undercover. Like a mission. On a case. I'm helping you, dad! Why aren't you proud of me?" She began to beg. Sherlock's look changed to that of regret, reading sadness in the girls voice. The two stood there, still tall and defensive, though neither talking. Neither backing down. John was the first to speak, "Let her try." He said calmly, staring at the floor. The two Holmes looked at him surprised, but Ellie grinned. Sherlock swallowed thickly but eventually agreed. Ellie through her arms around her father's neck before asking to be excused to her room.
She took out her phone in order to let Arrabella know that she had initiated plan UC without warning, but as she went to do this the text came through from Bella stating that she had had the same idea. Ellie replied simply,
Ditto. -E

This way of ending conversations had always amused the two of them. They were both easy to consider geniuses with wide vocabularies and even wider understandings of the things around them.
Yet neither one would text the word 'love you' or any synonym for it. They could only ever bring themselves to type the silly abbreviations of it.
Somehow, it made the words not feel as real.
