chapter two: officially the sidekick

As City led me to the door, I was ultimately confused. When she opened a door, I saw a room full of tech and a guy sitting in a chair.

"Hello Babe. Im Max, the guy in the chair, if you will" He said and shook my hand.

"Hey... nice to meet you" I said kinda confused on how to respond.

As Max followed us out into the main complex, City gave me the tour. It was quite simple; my guest room was next to the tech. The training labs were in that same hallway and the main room was at the opposite end of the hallway.

"Wow... this place is..." I was speechless

"I know... it's quite a piece of work we've installed. I mean I've been a vigilante here for quite some time but the industry is kinda recent. I mean I got far without it and then when we bought this building, it was strategic so that way we could build down." She explained as she sat on a couch. she motioned for me to join her.

"Hey would I be able to come here and use my room as a study space? I mean my house is too loud because my sister Callie doesn't understand headphones or a sensible volume" I said getting the idea.

"Of course. Your room is your's. But first I think there's a priority we need to set in place. Your attire" City said standing up to examine me. "Max grab the small to mediums." He ran as she motioned. A clothes rack with all kinds of suits were hung on it.

She had me try on so many options until we found one that we both liked. It was a black jumpsuit with a red leather jacket of sorts and a red mask. I also had a staff that was red and black.

"Wow. you look good" City said standing back to examine me once again.

"You think?" I sai looking in the mirror.

"One thing..." She said attaching a pin to the interior of my jacket.

"WWhat's this supposed to do?" I asked as my voice switched from my American accent to an Australian one.

"That" She said laughing at my shook reaction.

Her watch then started to beep like mad. Triple beep, followed by a double then repeat until she answered. I watched we attentively as she swiped up and one of the large monitors turned on.

"Max what've we got?" She asked

"Armed robbery on Fifth and Park" He said

"You ready?" City asked me

"You mean like right now? No training" I was shocked

"Consider this a test run. Just don't get shot" She said as we walked back to the porch.

She put her hand on the umbrella and the glass tube flashed a red colour.

"I'll see you up there" I watched as she stepped in the tube. She pressed the red button and see was pulled up the tube.

As the door opened again, I followed. She met me outside in an alley and we ran to the robbery. Star Hills wasnt that big so we got there in a decent amount of time.

When arriving at the scene of the crime, the police had backed up so we could enter. The gave me weird looks but let me pass. We saw two men both around the age of 18 robbing a jewelry store. Pretty classic move if I do say so myself.

"HEY!" City shouted

"Hey yourselves... awe who's the cute little wannabe?" They teased

"Dude!" I shouted and city held me back

"She's my sidekick..." city defended me as we walked around them in a circle

"No where to run now boys" I said

The tried to run. Of course city stopped one. The other had fallen and was trying to escape unnoticed.

"Uh-uh! I wouldn't do that!" I said as I kicked him in the face. he tried to fight back but then he had fallen unconscious. I watched as City put her laser in her belt.

I wanted a laser!!

"Hey kid" She said "Nice work" We chuckled

"Yeah... but it's Scarlett. You said it yourself" I said as she took me and we ran to an empty alley and when no one was watching, City had changed back into Felicity.

"What about me?!" I asked

She pointed her watch at me and I was changed back into my school uniform.

"You did good today kid" She said as we walked out of the opposite end of the alley and towards the Industry.

"Thanks" I said, my voice now back to normal

"Oh... You might wanna shower when you get home... YYou've got a bit of dirt on you" She said

When we arrived back at the industry, we went down to the lab and I looked in the mirror and gagged. I was filthy because the man tripped me up and I fell onto a dirty floor.

"Nice work you two" Max said as I shut the door.

"Thanks... I'm gonna go home. Get some rest." I said going to leave

"Wait! Babe!" Felicity called my name

"Yeah?" I turned around.

"This is your's. It also syncs with your staff which is the small little red stick in the bag. it collapsed so you can shove it up your sleeve so it is discrete." She handed me a watch. "oh come quick!" She said as I ran to join her.

"Put your watch on and lay it so the face is on the table.And repeat after me" She said "I, say your name"

"I, Bailey Reese Andrews," I spoke

"Promise to be a loyal sidekick to City, and when the time comes, to take on her duties of protecting Star Hills"

"And to never EVER tell anyone about my secret under any circumstances" She spoke.

I repeated it.

"Welcome to the team." she said hugging me and then taking my left wrist. "The Three, two, three beep code indicates that City is on the move, and you need to get in touch with me ASAP to meet City at the location. When you tap your watch star three times, you will automatically hear beeping. Pushing the crown will then initiate the suit up program and you will become Scarlett. Accent, and all. Well, except the mask. But you'll get to that later.The rest of the functions work just like the most recent tech watch so you can call either myself or max from your location when we need you. Now, rest up chica." Max explained my new watch and I was on my way.

As I walked home, I tried to make my way to my room, but was interrupted.

"Hey honey... what'd you do today?" My dad asked paying attention to the news

"And this just in, Super hero slash vigilante City has just teamed up with Australian sidekick, Scarlett, who made her debut today at the scene of a diamond heist." The news anchor spoke. An image of me and city fighting from about an hour ago appeared on the screen.

"Oh cool!" My dad said

"I got a job... and I don't mind" I said trying to cover up my excitement. "Training started today"

"That's great honey... proud of you" He said... a go to response.

As I found my bed, I crashed onto it and then took the bag Max and Felicity gave me an looked at it.

I put my watch back on and tried to use it.

Double beep, double beep, double beep, my watch buzzed.

"HEllo?" I spoke

"Babe, this is Max. Can you move the watch further from your face?" He said "Great..."
