chapter 5: the (computer) Lab

As history ended, my friends and i stood up and I made a rush to tech.

As I walked in I made eye contact with Max. I was kinda mad about earlier but then I realized our names had all been stuck on different computer monitors.

"Good afternoon everybody. Because I am terrible at names I've assigned you each a different monitor so i can learn them. This is your permanent seating plan for the remainder of the term." He said.

I walked over to mine, which was the closest to his desk and I opened it to log in.

ERROR was all that popped up across the screen.

"Sir..." I was a bit enraged. "What's going on? I mean I don't do anything but this just happened." I said

"Weird... ill make a sign so it's no longer being used but for now... Oh there aren't any monitors left.... um... sit tight and ill see what I can do" He said fiddling with his fingers as he walked back to his desk.

I then took out a book and pretended to 'read'. Really, I was just messaging max. (A/n Babe texting Max texting)

Um Max?! You did this didn't you!!

Babe! you need to understand why. These periods are crucial to your job. And you know what job that specifically is.

Really? So I'm guessing you and Felicity have come up with some genius plan that won't get me in trouble am so you can babysit me?!

Okay... give me two minutes. Promise.

I made evil eye contact with him and then put down my book.

"You okay there Babe?" Gwen asked me. "you seem flustered today..."

"Oh... yeah... just peachy" I was sarcastic

"You wanna chat?"

"Not really..." I started "well... ummm.... it's just my job and then this and it all seems to be one terrible day." I said

"How is your job at the industry terrible?" Gwen was shocked

"Oh that part isn't I'm just exhausted"

"Why!" She laughed "you had to run in circles testing some stupid gadget" She almost went to snort

"YOu have no idea" I laughed

"Baileyyy Andrewwwws... Ahh there you are. Sorry to break up your little girl chat but the only available monitor I currently have is the one in my private office. And you need your course credit so I'm afraid you'll have to use that one"

"Really?" I asked semi sarcastic

"Mhmm. Comeon" He said escorting me and then shutting the sliding door.

"Sorry! The window in there makes me cold" He said from outside the door.

I looked around. It was a small dark office that had a glowing light switch.

I flicked it and a tube like the one from the Industry popped up from the floor. I got in, when i knew this was his plan, and then was propelled somewhere. I couldn't even see.

"Woah!" I said when my feet hit off the end of the tunnel.

"Babe!" I heard a farmiliar British accent "oh dear! sooo sorry about max. He can be... pushy"

I saw felicity then open the tunnel door and I stood in the Lab.

"You're telling me that the school is connected to the Lab?!" I was in shock.

"Yeah! One of the perks. Plus when I went to your school... I knew what I was going to do so Max and I, took the industry's basement and made it our hideout. The computer lab and the Lab. Kinda similar so I you ever say yyou're going to the lab and its not for chemistry or technology... just clarify it" She said smiling.

"Ahh. Now my turn... Did you make sure max was hired at Hills Prep just to baby sit me" I asked seriously

"No. He had been working there for a long time prior... but in a way we may have been babysitting you because... Well, this is where your mother comes into play" Felicity sat on the couch. I joined her.

"Have you ever opened the letter she gave you the day before she died?" Felicity asked me

"No... I wasn't sixteen... but I am now I guess." I said

"Well... everything might make a lot... more sense I guess" She told me placing a hand on my shoulder "Your mom... she was great. I knew her, and I knew of you. Which is how I waited for the day you turned sixteen so I could get you a job here."

"Wait so the only reason I got the job was because of family connections?!" I asked semi furious

"No! You only were offered the job interview because of your mother. The reason you got the job is because you display the same factors she did. Courage and Determination. But your..." Felicity started

Max then interrupted by calling us

"What?" Felicity answered sharply "you cut off my good speech!" I said

"Training in t-10 and the real Babe needs to come not be creepy and just disappear." Max said.

I ran to the tube. As I jumped in I smiled and waved at Felicity.

And I could just hear her last words. "Strength put you in field"

I sprung out of the tube in Mr M's private office and grabbed my bag.

I walked out if the class to see all my friends next to my loLocke

"Hey.." I said kinda winded

"Where were you?" Gwen asked

"In the computer lab. In his office space thingy" I played dumb

"Babe!" Veronica cut in "WWhat's got you so stressed?"

""It's complicated guys! I mean you don't know what it's like having such an important job and then..." I was cut off by my phone

It was my sister.

"What Callie?!" I was frustrated

"GUESS WHAT!! I WAS ON A FIELDTRIP TODAY AND WHILE WE WERE AT THE BANK..." She was excited but I had to cut her off

"You... were AT the bank today during that robbery?!" I panicked

"YEAH BUT SCARLETT SAVED ME! I MEAN I THJNK SHE CALLED ME CAMILLE BUT SHE SAVED ME. SHE'S MY FAVOURITE PERSON EVER!" My sister was the biggest fangirl of Scarlett which made me kinda laugh.

"Okay kind of offensive cause I'm obviously better but Callie that's not something to be happy about. Now go home and talk to dad I have to get to training... at work" I blurted. She hung up.

"Hey what's this about a robbery?" my friends started to question

"I dunno but oh my god Fels gonna kill me gotta run bye!" I said

"HEY! BABE!" They all shouted at me

"We still doing froyo later?" Mia asked

"Ill be there!" I said running back in the school's direction

As I ran back inside I went to the computer lab and the to the Lab.

"Oh jeez!" I said dizzy.

"Just like her mother" Max laughed

I smiled.

"321 go!" Felicity shoved a dummy infront of me to tackle and I sighed.

Here we go.
