Freelancers

Killers litter the world, but some worse than others. People with special abilities, who don’t know how to control them, are some of those killers and criminals. Each one of those people with powers has a letter and number name. Every one of them only a blimp on a screen. They are hunted down and killed because they do not care who they kill, they only do it if they get paid in return. Humans become these monsters in human skin by paying a price of some kind from their original life.

These monsters are called Freelancers. Organizations around the world can see their power illuminate on a screen. They know when they die, but not where they are. But not all Freelancers are described as they are called. Some try to keep their normal lives and hide the power they are granted, while others help the world in a certain way so that this world they call Earth does not get destroyed by all the evil that is done on it.

“Hanata! Wake up!” Hanata opened her eyes and saw her friend Yonaka sitting next to her whispering harshly.  Hanata lifted her head and was looking directly at Mr. Takahashi. She yelped and fell out of her chair. The class began to laugh as she got up and fixed her chair and sat back down.

“Would you care to join me in front of the class Ms. Shengshun?” Mr. Takahashi asked accusingly. Hanata got up and followed him to the chalkboard and he wrote a college algebra question and asked her to solve it. Mr. Takahashi dropped the chalk he was using into Hanatas’ hand. She sighed and walked to the chalkboard and began to work out the problem and finished it in no longer than 5 minutes.

“Is that your final answer, Ms. Shengshun?” Mr. Takahashi asked. Hanata nodded and moved out of the way for him to check. The classroom got quiet as he checked her work and answer. He turned around and stared at her. “How did you answer this equation when we have not even covered this part of math?” he asked amazed, but mad all together.

Hanata shrugged and said, “I read ahead in our math books.” The bell rang for the end of class and Hanata grabbed her bag and walked out of class with Yonaka as quickly as possible.

“You really need to stop showing off, Hanata,” Yonaka said as she stuffed her books into her bag.

“Nah, I enjoy watching teachers get mad at me because I sleep in class and still know more than everyone,” Hanata replied smugly. They walked through the clutter of college students running through the halls trying to get to the exit doors leading to their cars.

Hanata and Yonaka are nonblood sisters because Hanatas’ parents were killed in a crash and Yonakas’ parents took Hanata in as their own when Hanata and Yonaka were only 7. Yonaka was an only child, but not anymore since Hanata came into her family. They gave her their name, Shengshun, as her last name. They’re both now 23, going to college and enjoying every minute of it.

No one knows their secret, not even their parents. They both are Freelancers and they work for the Criptonic. Criptonic is an organization that tells them who to kill and when to do it. They kill illegal drug traders and other Freelancers that interfere with them or cause problems in a mission.

They walk outside and into the parking lot. They spot Hanatas car and walk towards it and on top of the hood of the car is a black cat with blue eyes. “What this time, Shyl?” Yonaka asked as she grabbed him and got into the passenger seat. Hanata started the car and looked at Shyl carefully.

“We have another job for you two. This time you have to stop a Freelancer from killing one of our top providers,” he said. Shyl is also a Freelancer. He can jump into animals, but he lost his human body in a mission and has been stuck as a cat since. He tells them their missions and gives them important information.

“Do you know their ability?” Hanata asked as she turned out of the parking lot.

“No, but his name is Fudo Jotico. Our spies have found out that he has been given the job by an enemy of ours. Before you kill him we need you to get some information out of him.”

“Like?” Yonaka pressed. Shyl glared at her and licked his paw. They stared at him and he stopped suddenly embarrassed.

“You try being a cat. Anyway, torture him till he tells you where The Blue Dragon is,” he finished.

“What’s The Blue Dragon?” Hanata asked as they reached the apartment they lived in and turned off the car.

“That’s highly classified information girls,” Shyl informed them. Hanata and Yonaka rolled their eyes and got out of the car and headed upstairs to their apartment. Once there Yonaka put down Shyl and went into the kitchen.

“So basically stalk, corner, kill, right?” Hanata summed up. Shyl nodded and jumped onto a couch. Hanata opened a little compartment in the wall and pressed a few buttons and said, “Criptonic Freelancer 45.” A big section of the wall slid open and slid into the wall. Knives lined the big compartment, along with belts and holsters. Two masks sat on a ledge each one with different designs on them. Hanata grabbed hers; it is a complete white mask with a red line as a mouth and two eye holes with a lightning bolt through the right eye. Yonakas’ mask has no mouth. Only two eye holes and half of the mask covered in red tiny x’s.

Yonaka came back and grabbed her gear and went to her room to change. I did the same and Shyl said, “Hurry girls! You need to be at the building in 30 minutes so you can watch Fudo.”

“Yeah, yeah Shyl. Were coming,” Yonaka said as she and Hanata came in fully dressed for they’re mission. They slide on their masks and buttoned their bulletproof jackets. No one can see Hanatas’ black eyes or Yonakas’ light blue eyes. Hanatas’ black hair and Yonakas’ honey brown are both to the middle of their backs, untied, and free.
