Open: SARAH's coffee shop. Sunny/bright/hot weather. Stands at register talking to JESSICA.

SARAH: Did you finish the assignment for Professor Wilkie's class? It took me so long, almost two hours.

JESSICA: No. Definitely took a major L on that.

SARAH:...

JESSICA: You really should remember that we don't go to the same college.

SARAH: Oh. Right.

JOHN enters carrying laptop case/on phone.

JESSICA: Hmmmm...

SARAH: What?

JESSICA: Nothing.

Leaves counter for John's order.

JOHN: ¿Qué signífica? Pensí que lo ya habías terminado.

JESSICA: (flirtatiously) Hello sir, what can I get you today?

JOHN holds index finger up. JESSICA waits patiently.

JOHN: No me importa. Su familia moriría antes de me importa.

JESSICA: (confused) Your regular, sir?

JOHN nods

JESSICA: Well then could you tell me your regular, sir? So I know for future reference?

JOHN finishes phone conversation and hangs up. He looks up at JESSICA and seems startled to see her there.

JOHN: Oh! Hello.

JESSICA (slightly annoyed): Hello, sir. May I take your order now?

JOHN (flustered): Ye.. Yes. Sorry, there was a . . . never mind. I'll have a regular black coffee.

JESSICA writes order on notepad.

JESSICA: Anything else?

JOHN: No, that'll be all.

JESSICA: Alright, then a name for the order?

JOHN: John.

JESSICA: Okay John, we'll call your name when your order is finished and then you can pay at the register.

JOHN: Thank you.

JESSICA returns to counter. SARAH is staring at JOHN from behind the register with a slightly dazed expression.

JESSICA: Well, that was awkward.

SARAH continues to stare blankly.

JESSICA (waving hand in front of SARAH's face): Hello? Earth to Sarah!

SARAH (starts in surprise): Huh?

JESSICA: We serve coffee here, Sarah. That man is not on the menu. Make the coffee. Regular black for Mr. Tall Dark and Handsome.

SARAH: Right...

SARAH begins pouring coffee in an unwashed mug.

JESSICA: Sarah?

SARAH remains oblivious

JESSICA: (under her breath) Ok, I'm done.

JESSICA places hand on SARAH's wrist to stop her. JESSICA gently removes coffee pot from SARAH's hand and pours coffee into a clean mug for JOHN

SARAH returns to register.

JESSICA (shouting): Regular black for John!

JOHN stares at laptop, apparently not hearing JESSICA's shout.

JESSICA (shouting): John? Regular black for John?

JOHN continues to ignore JESSICA's shout.

JESSICA grabs mug for JOHN and leaves the counter with it. She approaches his table.

JESSICA (shouting in JOHN's ear): REGULAR BLACK FOR JOHN!

JOHN finally looks around at her.

JOHN: Sorry, I was finishing an email. I'll go to the register to pay for it right now. Thank you for bringing it to me.

JESSICA hands him the mug with the air of someone dumping a rock from their shoe.

JESSICA: Uh-huh. Sarah will take care of you over at the register.

JESSICA goes into the back. JOHN saves work on his laptop, closes lid, carries it under arm to register with coffee in hand.

SARAH: Hello

JOHN: Hello. This is a regular black.

SARAH stares.

JOHN: Um... Hello? Miss? I'd like to pay for my coffee.

SARAH does not respond until a loud noise issues from the back room.

SARAH (flustered): Oh! You must be Mr. John. (awkward pause)

JOHN: Yes... Could you please ring me up? I'd like to continue working.

SARAH: Oh! Oh yeah! One moment... punches in numbers on register

SARAH: That'll be $3.15

JOHN hands SARAH his credit card. SARAH swipes it and hands it back to him. JOHN signs the keypad.

SARAH: Okay! Thank you for coming! Please come again (awkwardly winks)

JOHN has already returned to his table. He works on his laptop for an hour, then leaves.

JESSICA emerges from back room

JESSICA: Is he gone?

SARAH: Unfortunately, yes.

JESSICA: What do you mean "unfortunately?!" The guy was totally weird! I had to shout in his ear just to get him to come get his coffee.

SARAH (dreamy expression): Who cares if he's weird? He's hot.

JESSICA: Well I don't care how hot he is, if he ever comes in here again, you're taking his order. Then you'll see how weird he is.

SARAH: Gladly.
