Ch.1|Giving A Chance

Kaito's POV

Even though I always wanted to know how snow felt like, I wished that it wasn't so cold! Yuuto was in my shirt with his head sticking out of it, as he feels fine but is acting like a heater to me. I should've at least gotten warm clothing before I left but I just didn't have the time. Though, I'm happy that I managed to see Yuki and Kaname before I did... I know Yuki will grow up spoiled but still be kind and beautiful when she grows up, Kaname will be quiet the ladies man that's for sure. I shivered and sneezed as the cold was getting to me, I have to find a place where I can warm up otherwise I might gain frostbite out here.

I searched around till I found a shrine, abandoned since it looked like it will fall at any moment. But beggars can't be choosers so I walked to it and slid the screen door open, walking in and closed the door behind me. That's when I noticed another presence, a human, that was within the shrine "Huh? A kid?" I jumped and looked at the man. He was tall and slender but did had muscle, short grey hair, red eyes behind a pair of glasses and wears a black uniform that resembles what a priest would wear. I saw his eyes staring at Yuuto and then he narrowed on him, Yuuto began to growl. I pat his head to help calm him and looked towards the human. "Hey kid, what are you doing here?"

I pointed to the snow and then rubbed my hands together. "You... were cold? Make sense. But I'm asking why is a kid like yourself away from home" How can I say anything? I can't speak and if I try now it would hurt my throat. Yuuto then jumped out of my shirt, leaving me cold and he comes with a stick with a chared end. I grabbed it and smiled at Yuuto as in to say thanks and wrote on the wooden floor. 'I left home'

"You left home? Well, do you have a place to stay?"

'No, I just left without planing... However, I won't return there'

"I won't ask about that... but why can't you speak?"

'I haven't used my voice in such a long time, it hurts now when I try too'

"Try talking now"

I looked at him and sighed, trying to speak now would hurt but then again, I would need to see if I can ever speak again. I opened my mouth "H-Hello" God that sounded bad, like a toad that was sick. I coughed afterward as it hurt my throat. The human's eyes shined in concern and then he left for a moment to come back and gave me a cup. "Here, have a drink kid" I tilted my head and sniffed the drink, it smelled sweet. I took a small sip and the warm liquid warmed my throat and body. It tasted sweet but I knew it wasn't something like citrus so I grabbed the stick and asked 'What is it?'

"You don't know what hot chocolate is?" I shooked my head as I took another sip, humming in happiness as my body gradually warmed up. Yuuto was laying in my lap while this happened, I placed the cup near Yuuto and he happily had some. I could feel the man's eyes on both me and Yuuto but mostly on Yuuto, why does he keep on staring at him? I grabbed the stick while Yuuto was drinking and asked 'Why do you keep staring at Yuuto?'

"Yuuto? Is that the fox's name?" I nodded.

"Haa... You might not believe me but the fox there isn't your ordinary fox"

'Like by his coat?'

"More than his coat kid" I narrowed my eyes at him and held Yuuto closer. "Don't worry, I won't hurt him. Besides, considering what he is, I don't think I will win against him" What he is? I looked at the small fox who I called my best friend, family even. His gold eyes looked into my own. I wrote 'I don't care if he is just an ordinary fox or something else entirely different, he is my family. He never left me so I won't leave him' The man smiled a toothy grin.
