Ch.3|Remembering Scars

-Kaito's POV-

After finding out what I am, Rin and Yukio, as well as the other exorcists, still accepted me. I know I can just erase their memories but the feeling of the two accepting me felt better as well as the fact that it would cause more trouble in the future if they didn't find out and I know they can keep a secret. However, after that night I placed distance between me and everyone there, in fear of biting someone important to me. 

Today the twins were in middle school and I stayed home in order to study for True Cross Academy. We got a letter from them and they accepted me into the school so I stay home to train for it. I have been there as well as the herbalist where I have met Mrs Moriyama as well as her daughter, Shiemi. She looked to be around Yukio and Rin's age and was shy at first but she is such a kind girl, when I first went there she actually offered me a four-leaf clover for good luck for my studies.

My studies, as well as my training, is going smoothly as Shiro helped out. I quickly advanced through the different stages of becoming an Exwire and reaching the Middle 1st Class standard. Now the twins are at least 14 while I am 16, Yukio has been training as well with the goal of wanting to protect Rin which I find a little cute. Twins brothers, the eldest who would always save the day and the youngest want to protect him. I would sometimes help Yukio with his training and studies but all in all, he was a natural for this. After recently completing my mission, my body was sore and all I wanted was to sleep.

"Kaito!" I turned to see Yukio, who is steadily is reaching my height. His forehead now reaching my shoulders, I looked at him. "I... I was wondering something"

"Like what?" I asked.

"Well... I was wondering if you could teach me more about you... about vampires" This was a first, never has he showed interest in my kind or never asked about it. "I don't mind... but may I ask why you want to know?"

"Well... I got a letter from an association who I think deal with vampires" My eyes widen. They are not a really trusting group towards those who are close to vampires... "Hmm... We can talk after I take a nap. Both me and Yuuto are tired" Yuuto yapped in agreement. Yukio said it was fine and I teleported into my room and fell onto my bed, Yuuto flopping beside my head. I closed my eyes and let the sleep overtake my senses.

-Yukio's POV-

I wonder if it was OK to ask? His face when he saw that letter wasn't a good one. Even if he is a vampire... that doesn't define him who he is. He is sensitive when it comes to people and what they look like or what they could be. The fact when we were young... when we said that he is still our brother even after finding out what he was... and he cried. If he was really a so-called monster, he wouldn't have cried so much when we accepted him. I looked to my papers and continue on my studies for a few hours until I heard a knock. "Come in!"

The door opened to show Kaito with Yuuto on his shoulder. "Kaito. I'm glad you came" We both sat on my bed and I asked "So with vampires... are there like... different rankings?"

"Yes, there are. There are five different... levels you could say. There are Level E to Level A, Level A being the most powerful and rare. Level A's are known as Purebloods and are treated like royalty, Level B are like nobility and Level C are like common folk... and Level D are those who were once human" I noticed as he explained the Level D, he was a bit likely not wanting to answer. 

"Wait... how does one become a Level D?" Kaito looked nervous about this question. "Only the bite from a Pureblood has the ability to make a human a vampire..."

"Wow. These Purebloods are dangerous if they can do that" I noticed him flinch at the statement. Why did he? Is this a hard topic for him?

"Is there anymore questions?" Kaito asked but his voice was a bit... sad.

"Well... What about the Level E vampires? You haven't explained about them yet"

"Level E are similar to Level D vampires but the E means end... In order to become a Level D the turned human must drink the blood of the one who turned him, in return the Pureblood have full control over the newly-dubbed vampire. If they don't, they will be unable to control the blood lust and slowly turn into a mindless beast who suck blood in every chance they get..." Oh god. Wait, now that I think about it, what kind of vampire is Kaito?

"U-Um... Kaito?"

"You are curious of what my rank is?" H-How did he know?

"Your face is like an open book Yukio... easy to read. I was once a son of a Pureblood family"

"P-Pureblood?" The same ones that can turn people? A-and once he was?

"I will explain. My blood family are known as the Kuran family, one of the most known Pureblood families there are. Sadly, they weren't kindest..."

"What do you mean?"

"Well... Could you please not ask?" I want to know... but he look a bit uncomfortable. "Alright, thanks for telling me all this"

"However... Do be careful with that association, Yukio" Kaito said. His face showed concern. I couldn't say no so I promised him that I'll be careful and also said that I won't be going there. "My dream is more towards being a exorcist rather than a vampire hunter anyway"

"To protect Rin... correct?"

"N-No! I want to be just like you and Dad! I look up to you!" I then covered my mouth, my cheeks red. Why did I say that?! I didn't want to tell him that! I looked to see his face, eyes wide and mouth open that showed off his fangs. He then chuckled and his cheeks also a bit red. "T-Thanks... I get Father as I also look up to him too, but me? I never knew you looked up to me too" He said with a gentle smile.

My face felt warmer and then I saw Kaito came closer, w-what is he... "Are you OK? Your face seems a bit flushed" he said as he placed his forehead on mine, something he always did to me and Rin to check if we were sick.

"I-I'm fine, just a bit tired..." I said.

"OK, if you say so. I should let you sleep, come on Yuuto" He said, Yuuto jumped on his shoulder and waved his paw at me. I waved back and got into bed. Kaito really changed compare to when he first came, he couldn't speak as much as he can now. Even though he looks weak, he is equal to Dad in both exorcism and hand-to-hand combat.

But what I realized the most, was his eyes. They were so dark when we first met but now they are more... how should I say this? Light up?

...I wonder who took the light in his eyes in the first place...
