EPILOGUE ❝ our piece of forever ❞
HAYDEN LOOKED TO Emmett as he sat down next to her in the grass. The girl had taken to the comfort of the outdoors, perching herself on the Cullens' backyard. The sun was glowing in the sky, dipping just beyond the horizon and turning the clouds to light shades of pink and orange. A breeze settled with the autumn air, tugging the vibrant leaves from their branches and letting them fall to the ground below.
Paul and Mike wrestled in the distance, their laughter ringing out as Paul caught the boy in a headlock. Hayden smiled at their antics, feeling Emmett's hand rest on hers.
She enjoyed the sound of Edward and Bella chatting, too, as they stood on the balcony above them. The sun was setting in the distance, and the girl was counting the seconds until it would disappear. It would be dark in minutes, but Hayden didn't mind. She would enjoy this time as long as she could.
"We could leave, you know," Emmett says to her, placing a gentle kiss on her knuckles, then a final one on her engagement ring. "And get away for a bit."
"We've got a lot of time," Hayden shakes her head, chuckling as she places her forehead on his. "I think this is the perfect time to take a walk, don't you think?"
"I'd love that," he grins, his hand not leaving hers as they stood.
Paul and Mike noticed as they departed, each of them staring with a small smile as they disappeared into the distance. The light followed their path, each of the Cullens watching the couple . . .
Watching as they faded into their small piece of forever.
