Adventures In Sisters

Writing Prompt: "Why is he bleeding?" "Because he's a idiot." "I didn't know idiocy made you bleed from your nose." "....." 

     My older sister, Mia, is meeting Miles today. Well not meeting exactly. She is ten years older then me which means she left for college right after Miles and I's friendship begun. She has only returned home 3 times after she left not including this time and she met Miles only one of those times. So now she is 'officially' meeting Miles. Who she doesn't even remember meeting the first time.  I feel stressed. 

I've been at Miles house since 10 in the morning and it's 1 now. I have been informing him about my sister because he can't remember anything about her. They met when Miles and I were 11. She is coming over to Miles apartment at 3 which means we only have 2 hours! I'm freaking out. 

"Nova this isn't a big deal. Calm down." Miles can tell that I'm worried. I get really fidgety when I'm worried and I've been messing with his blankets for the past hour and a half. 

"It is though. Miles this is technically your first meeting. How are you not freaking out?!" I shout in a panicky voice. 

"I'm not worried because if she is anything like you we will get along great." He says with confidence dripping from his voice. 

"But Miles, she isn't anything like me." I tell him. I see his confidence start to waver. 

"She isn't?" He asks weakly. 

"Not at all." 

"What am I gonna do? What if she doesn't like me? What if she makes you stop being friends with me? What if-"

"Now you need to calm down. She doesn't have that much control in my life. And how could she not like you? You're the actual best person I know." This time confidence is dripping from my voice. I have faith in him. He'll do just fine meeting my sister. 

All of a sudden the doorbell rings. "Oh no, it has to be your sister." Miles says with worry in his voice. He turns to get the door but instead he hits his face on the wall. 

"Oh my god Miles!" I walk over to where he is standing with his hand covering his nose. "Is your nose bleeding?" I meekly ask. 

"Yep." He says in a pained tone. 

"Ok let me get you some Kleenex's." I state as I grab some Kleenex's for him. I hand them to him and tell him I'm letting my sister in. He nods his head and holds the Kleenex to his nose. I answer the door and there my sister is. 

"Hey Nova!"She says as she pulls me in for a hug. I don't know why because we saw each other this morning but whatever. I invite her in and she immediately spots Miles with a Kleenex pressed against his nose and head tilted back. She leans over to me. 

"Why is he bleeding?" She asks me quietly. 

"Because he's an idiot." I state. It's not a lie. He should have known there was a wall there. It is his apartment. I do still bad about the fact that he's bleeding though. 

"I didn't know idiocy made you bleed from your nose." She whispers to me. I roll my eyes thinking that it doesn't but walls do. She walks over to Miles whose nose just stopped bleeding, so he doesn't have a Kleenex covering his face. She looks at him then looks back at me and inconspicuously waves her hand as if cooling herself down signaling that she thinks he's hot. I shake my head as a signal of he's to young for you. He isn't really. They are only ten years apart, but I don't need my best friend dating my older sister, do I? 

She rolls her eyes at me and says "Hi you must be Miles?" She holds out her hand. 

"Uh yeah I am." He says as they shake hands. 

"It's nice to finally meet my little sister's best friend of ten years. Oh and I'm Mia." She says as they let go of each other's hand. I'm still standing in the doorway of the living room, so I walk inside and stand next to Mia. I feel really awkward. 

"It's nice to meet you too, Mia." He says as he throws his Kleenex's away. It seems like it's going fine so far. I can feel the worry of them not getting along melting away, but there is a new worry now. My sister is taking a nice liking to him. 

We all sit on the couch and talk for the next 40 minutes. Well it was mostly Miles and Mia talking and trying to get to know each other better while I sit there filling in the blanks of stories or something if needed. It's literally been an hour since she showed up and I still feel really awkward. 

"Hey Miles will you help me get some water for the 3 of us?" I ask him. 

"Yeah sure." He says as he hops up from the couch ready to help. We walk into the kitchen and I hop up on his counter to sit. He turns and looks at me. "I thought we were getting water."

"Oh we are but we're also talking about how things are going so far." I tell him as I grab some glasses from behind me. I hand them to him and he starts filling them up. 

"Well I think it's going pretty good." He states with a small shrug. I nod my head.

"Yeah it is." Maybe a little too good I think in my head. "My sister really seems to like you." I tell him while watching his movements. I prop my elbows up on my knees and set my head on my hands. 

He turns to look at me. "Really? I like her too." I can tell he clearly means as a friend but I know my sister would jump him if she got the chance. Miles is so clueless sometimes. He can't tell when girls flirt with him. Actually it's pretty funny most of the time. I feel bad for them when he says bye and doesn't ask for their number or something. But I also laugh, like a lot. And then, I tell him they were flirting with him and he stands there with his mouth open for like a minute before saying something like "No they weren't. I would know if they were." And I would say, "sure you would." In a sarcastic tone while laughing some more. He would roll his eyes then we would move on. Yeah this has happened a lot. 

Miles and I walk back to the living room and he hands Mia a glass of water. We spend another hour talking before I shoo Mia out. She wasn't happy with me for that. Miles and I watched movies untill 10 then I went home. I knew I needed to talk to Mia. 

When I got home she was sitting on the couch waiting for me to get home. "Well hello lovely sister." She said as I took off my boots and sat next to her. 

"Hey Mia." 

"So Miles is a pretty nice guy." She says. 

"Yeah. He has been my best friend for ten years, so I know." I tried to keep a sassy tone out of my voice. 

"And he is very hand-some." I nod my head to what she's saying. Just because he's my best friend doesn't mean I don't notice how hot he is. 

"You and Miles would actually make a cute couple." She says as she looks at me. My mouth drops open. What did she just say?! 

"Um what?!" I yell. 

"Yeah the way you two interact. I could just see you being an adorable couple." She says with a smile. "Plus you kicked me out so you two could watch movies for like 5 hours." I started blushing at that. 

"No we wouldn't date. We don't like each other that way. We're best friends." I say while shaking my head. 

"Ok, whatever you say Nova." She says as she gets up and goes to her bedroom. Now this was one weird day. And I have something new to think about.
