There I was at this small café downtown. I knew the guy in the dark blue coat across the street had been following me for the past 12 blocks. He couldn't go more than a minute without sneaking a look at me out the corner of his eye.
"I've got to get rid of him," I thought, "I don't feel like getting kidnapped today."
About a block away I saw a pretty attractive guy walking while talking on his phone. I checked really quickly to make sure he wasn't wearing a ring then pulled my phone out and started talking on it as if I was about to meet someone. When he got just a few paces from the table I was sitting at I loudly said 'yeah I see you' then caught the mans eye and stood up hugging him. Confused he brought his phone down away from his ear and hung up with whomever he was talking to. Once I was close enough to his ear I whispered 'play along like you know me. The guy in blue across the street has been following me all morning.' Then I pulled away to grab my stuff and turned back to the stunned stranger and wrapped his arm over my shoulders and we began walking down the street in the direction he was already headed.
After we'd walked a few blocks and turned a few corners I quickly pulled him into a poorly lit antique shop.
"Sorry to pull you from your day but just wait here a bit so I can be sure he's not still on my tail" I said.
"You're not a mobster are you? Or a run away?" He questioned me. Probably only half serious. I shook my head 'No' with a small chuckle and an amused smirk.
After 30 min I deemed the coast clear and told this handsome stranger he could continue on with his afternoon.
"Great," he said, "how about lunch?"
I responded with a short laugh and a nod. After that we'd spent the rest of the day together laughing about my earlier dilemma and finally learning each other's names. And that my dears is how I met your grandfather.
