(I'll tell you when to play the song)
______________________________It was supposed to be Lucas and Riley forever. Smackle and Farkle together. Maya and Josh with their long game. Zay and Vanessa with their some day... But if there was one thing that they had learned over the years is that to expect the unexpected.
Maya certainly didn't expect to sit down with Josh one day to officially end their long game. She didn't expect to fall for someone else yet she did.
Farkle thought for such a long time that any possibility he had to getting together with either Riley or Maya was destroyed until one day he had got his chance. After Smackle he didn't expect to find someone there for him. To comfort him. But she was there.
Zay always hoped that Vanessa and himself would somehow get together one day. It wasn't until they actually got together that he realized he wasn't as happy as he thought he would be. Not when he spent so much time with someone else. Not until her.
Riley thought of Lucas as her prince and that he would one day save her from her castle. She thought that once they got back together that that was it. They were in it for the long haul. Just like Maya however, she was sourly mistaken. Their relationship just couldn't work out as much as they tried. It was always something. Like the world was literally trying to break them apart and when they answered that call everything felt right between them again. And then he was there. He had taught her that she didn't need someone to save her when she had herself to do it.
And now we reached Lucas as he watched the girl of his dreams in the arms of another man. Of his friend. Still, he didn't expect them to be together. No one did. It was unexpected. But if he were being honest with himself then he would say it wasn't as unexpected as he thought it was. He just chose to ignore the signs because some selfish part of him thought that she still had feelings for him. He was lost. For the first time he didn't have to be this perfect boyfriend. A perfect anything really... and he had no idea who he was. But he knew how he was feeling now, at this very moment. He felt lost. Broken. Torn apart. And he had no one to blame but himself. Everyone was happy around him as they had the night of their lives. It being prom after all.
Yet he was standing by the punch bowl, watching her as she danced with him. Her creamy skin glowing as her dainty hand moved up to his neck. Her fingers locking, smile in place. His own fingers were locked together, resting comfortably on her lower back.
He shouldn't feel resentment towards him. He was his best friend. Had been for years. But he still felt it. Bubbling underneath his skin, hidden from this retched suit, waiting to unleash itself. For him to tear through the crowd of couples all sickeningly in love to rip him away from her. To wrap his own arms around her waist and press her body close to his as much as he could and kiss her. Instead he stood there, watching.
He wasn't the only one watching the pair. Josh was there as well since his brother had asked him to be a chaperone for the event. He was watching everyone dancing when his gaze landed on a certain blonde that was staring at the happy couple dancing without knowledge of the glares he sent their way. Well, he sent to the males way. From the way he looked at her, he knew he was a goner. In a way he felt sorry for him, the poor guy was clearly in love with her but she was with someone else. And it would've been easier for him to confess his feelings were for it not the fact that he had lost his chance years ago. Not to mention that the guy happened to treat her as she deserved to be treated. He looked back at him, shaking his head to himself. Poor guy.
Maya was one of the couples dancing in the dance floor. Happily swaying to the song with her date. Just in the corner of her eye, she could spot Riley dancing with hers. Her fingers were locked around his neck, gazing up at him adoringly as he looked down at her with the same expression. That moment was a moment she knew she would later draw. Riley looked so unbelievably happy and she never felt more content than she did at that moment.
