"I do so relish the sight of you covered in blood, love. Especially with the tears in your eyes."
I backed away, hearing the sickening squelch of blood beneath my feet. My heart thudded in my chest like a stampede of wild beasts. I whimpered softly, the thuds echoing in my ears. Byron's grin grew as he edged closer to me. Fear wracked my body, sobs choking me and catching in my diaphragm.
The squelch of blood beneath my feet grew louder, making me feel like my feet were being sucked into the puddle, like it would devour me whole. My whole body flooded with anguish and pain. She's gone, she's gone and there's nobody left who knows me... nobody left who truly cares. Gone!
"Princess!" thundered the guards as they ran over, hearing my pained, weak sobs. The synchronized sounds of their feet against the floor grew louder as Alex came close, stopping before the puddle of blood began. Alex's eyes softened and he gulped when he saw me, dripping with blood. His adam's apple bobbed before he craned his neck to peer inside my room. I saw his face go grey and eyes go wide. He let out a shaky breath before he turned to one of the other guards. "Alert the king and fetch the handmaids for the princess." he said, taking full charge as his eyes shone with care. "Yes sir!" Saluted the guard as he ran off, metal armour clanking.
My eyes trailed back to Helga, going wide and blooming with newly-ripened tears. Helga wasn't just dead...she was murdered.
The salon on the first floor had always been decorated blue. There was always a single-colour aesthetic for the salons on each floor, but the blue salon always seemed to cheer me up. It had blue walls, blue trims, blue love-seats and light blue cushions with pale blue lace. Blue was everywhere.
I certainly didn't feel like the chirpy, happy blue kind of perosn today, especially not after...
I'd been cleaned, changed and put in the salon by the handmaids, who treated me silently. I only spoke a few thank-yous. No matter how clean I saw, i just felt dirty. Her blood seeped inside me. Her blood had poisoned me, haunting me forever. My skin crawled.
Soon enough my suitors filed in, eyes stony and cold. Yama sat down and picked up a single cup of tea (elegantly decorated with blue patterns, of course), lifting it to his lips as he speaks. "Princess, please don't cry." He hummed, taking a small sip before he put the cup back on the table. "We understand your loss."
"It's the loss of a servant." Dov scoffed, folding his arms. His monotone voice sounded colder than usual, making a shiver shimmy down my spine. "I don't know why she's so broken."
I snapped, furious. Did he have no idea that I am human? That I feel? "Maybe because she was my friend,my mentor and my sister to the grave!" I spat, standing up and glaring at the eldest suitor. "Perhaps that is why I'm so broken. I wonder, do you not understand because you've never had a friend?" I taunted, cruel intent in my voice. I wanted to hurt him, I wanted him to hurt like I hurt. After all he's done...
Dov glared down at me, towering over me with rage burning in him. "Listen here you spoilt little chit," he growled, rage in his low tone. My eyes widened by a fraction in shock at the fact he spoke with such passionate hatred. "You will keep your whore mouth shut or i will sew it shut!"
"Your majesty, please refrain from threatening my wife." Byron stood up, fixing his stainless steel cufflinks.
"She is not your wife." Miklos glared at Byron, sat regally on his love-seat beside his brother. Duci suddenly stood and glares at Dov, four inches taller than the king and with a murderous sneer.
"Sit down, prince."
"I won't let you insult my bride." Duci growled.
"I am not your bride... I am not anyone's bride!" I sigh. "I think it best for you all to cease your efforts to woo me. I am not interested in this, less interested than I was before. Please..." I turn away, slowly openning the door before I come face-to-face with my father.
"Y/n..." he said, softly, regret in his eyes. "You cannot end this... You must find a husband in one week." "What? father, you can't make me do this? Helga is-"
"I can, and I have. Please don't make this harder." Father said, sighing. "Choose a husband. We cannot stall." I sobbed, covering my mouth as i shook my head. I pushed past my father, kicking off my heels before running off.
I entered the courtyard the light blazing in my eyes as i wiped away my tears. I needed somewhere to find solace, perhaps here was the best place...
