My Opinion...

I was watching the news earlier and felt so proud of my generation. I'm only a sophomore in high school and people believe my generation doesn't know what we're talking about or we are to young to know what's going on, and I believe that that's false. We know exactly what's going on and it hurts to know that people don't believe or get when we say that. I was texting with my friends earlier since I stayed home because I wasn't feeling well and I couldn't go to school, but one of them told me that people were trying to walk out and there were teachers and security guards blocking the exits. She also told me that some people were saying that if you walked out you could get a three day suspension. That got me really upset because people shouldn't get punished for what they believe in. People, students in particular, should be able to walk for seventeen minutes or more for this great and amazing cause. It's so heart breaking and tragic that I hope it never happens again, but how do we know that for sure. We don't, and we are trying to convince the people that can change this and they just aren't listening. Yes I agree that we should raise the age limit in all states and that that's a good start, but that's not going to stop shooters. People are still going to get guns whether it's in a legal or illegal way. Do I believe that teachers should have guns in the classroom? Yes and no. Yes because I guess it could be helpful in a sense, but then again it's just putting more guns in the hands of people. I think background checks and mental tests should be mandatory for those who want to purchase a gun. I think only a select few should be allowed to have guns. I'm going to be making a bracelet with some of the schools' colors that had a school shooting. I'm going to be making it for the purpose of showing my respect and remorse to those who lost their lives and for those who lost loved ones. I just wish it didn't take us this long to finally do something about it.

My heart goes out to all of those who have lost someone in the school shootings, and I wish the absolute best and happiness for all of you.
