CHAPTER 2

I DON'T LIKE SATURDAYS ANYMORE

DIANE DELA CRUZ

The sound of my alarm woke me up from my dreamland. Startled by it, bigla akong napaupo sa kama ko.

I have to be cautious kasi baka kasi isama niya si Catherine or some other childhood friend since he's the extrovert type.

And ako naman ay introvert so maybe that justifies the saying, "We get more attracted to our opposites."

Hindi pa 'rin ako magkapag-decide. I sat on my bed and nanonood sa ng mga palabas kaso bigla akong tinawag ni mama.

"Diane!

Some people say na perfect pair si mama at papa. Everytime they tell them their occupation, people say that it looked like it was already planned. An entrepreneur and a chef? Anyone could tell that they are going to open a restaurant.

They were college sweethearts. Pero parehas sila ng highschool na pinasukan. Naging close lang sila 'nung college dahil nasa parehas na subdivision sila, sabay silang pumapasok, at palagi daw silang nagkikita sa hallway.

And then, they became friends.

My mother's name is Diana while my father's name is Carlos. The reason why my name is Diane Kathleen is because they wanted my name to be a combination of theirs. The choices they made were horrible! From Criselda to Carleena Diana, I was lucky enough to dodge those names! They came into a conclusion which is Diane Kathleen. The Diane part was from my mother and I didn't know kung saan galing 'yung Kathleen.

We aren't like those other families. Kung sila ay nag-uusapan at nagtatawanan, we are the exact opposite of them. Si mama at papa pinag-uusapan ang business while si kuya naman ay busy palagi with his projects.

Ok! I made my decision! I waited for a couple of minutes para makausap si mama.

"Ma..." bulong ko. "Gagala ako mamaya. Payag ka?"

"Go ahead."

Yes!

I heard na last rank siya sa section nila last semester."

"Ma, people change when they work hard."

Mama snorted with my statement and asked me a question. "Anong oras ka aalis? Baka pwede kitang isabay?"

"Siguro eleven o'clock? Sabi niya kasi brunch."

"Perfect! Sabay ka na sakin, okay?" she smiled at me.

Mom dropped me off sa McDo branch kung saan palagi kaming pumupunta ni Johanne. The place was almost empty.

I went to the cashier and ordered a large iced coffee and an Oreo flurry. I picked a chair beside the window, where it had the most beautiful view.

I waited for minutes, then it turned into an hour. My coffee and flurry were already finished.

Medyo marami nang tao sa McDo because it was nearing lunch time. Wait, let me correct myself. It was already lunch time!

As soon as I sent the text, the door opened and revealed sweaty Johanne and a frowning Catherine.

"I just saw your text. Sama ka na since nandito ka pa." Johanne smiled at me.
