“We’re here to give you the answer.” Jack said cheerfully.

I was still in shock. What Jack said didn’t sink in immediately to my mind.

“Hey!” Clark snapped.

That’s when I understood what Jack said.

“Could we at least come inside?” Jack asked with a smile.

I didn’t say a word. I just let them come inside my apartment. They all sat down on the small couch I have then I sat down on the floor facing them.

We were all silent. Jack was just staring at me while smiling. Clark was just crossing his arms while looking at nowhere. Billy and Austin were also looking at nowhere with their frowning faces. I didn’t know what to say. I didn’t expect them to come here just to give me an answer. I sighed.

“Could we at least say a single word here?” Jack said breaking the silence.

“Y-You want some coffee?” I asked trying to be friendly.

“Nah.” Austin refused.

“Hmmm.” I started, “So, w-what’s your answer?” I asked with my heart pumping so fast. I just played with my hands while looking at their faces.

“We have one condition.” Billy said without looking at me.

“W-what’s that?” I asked in furrowed brows.

“You have to help us.” Austin said in a grouchy face.

I guessed I have to get used to this; Austin with his grouchy face and Billy who talks without eye contact. I sighed.

“Help us with our studies.” Clark said in a serious tone.

“S-Studies?” I asked in shock.

“We don’t want to repeat this year again. That English teacher hates us and she’s the reason why we repeated our senior year. You have to help us, like a tutor.” Jack said with a smile.

I was quiet for a moment trying to process what they said.

Me?

Tutor?

Them?

I heaved a sigh, “I’m going to be in danger.” I murmured.

“So, what do you think?” Austin asked in grouchy face again.

I just sighed again. I looked at my hands. I thought for a moment.

“If you really want to write, then that’s the sacrifice you have to make.” Clark said.

So, should I accept their condition? I really want to write a story. I know I couldn’t study in college. Writing is my only way to be famous and to earn money. I want this first story of mine to be accepted by the publishing company. They can help me. I believe that real experiences are better than vicarious one. I could create a realistic story!

“Mandy?” I looked at Jack when he spoke.

“Okay. I’ll be your tutor.” I said trying to give them a smile.

“We’ll pay you if you need—“

“No!” I cut Clark off before he could say something about money again. I really hate people who offer money to me! I’m not that poor!

“Okay. You don’t have to shout.” Clark said in grimace.

“S-Sorry about that. I just don’t like topics about—“

“We understand.” Jack said smiling at me. I just smiled back at him.

“So, the tutorial will start on Monday afternoon.” Billy said without looking at me.

“I’m not available on Monday afternoon.” I still have my part time job.

“She has a job at night.” Jack told them.

“Where?” Clark asked seriously.

“Couponee Bar.” I said in a low voice.

“What time are you available?” Austin asked in a grouchy face.

“Eight. I’ll be home at seven and I still have to do something after my work.” I said.

“We’ll be here at eight then. Don’t bother to cook; we’ll just buy food for our supper.” Clark said that amused me.

“C-Clark, you d-don’t have to bother to buy foo—“

“I said I’ll bring food here.” Clark cut me off this time. He’s really stubborn. I just sighed.

“It’s fixed, then.” Jack said cheerfully, “Miss Tutor, we have to go now.” Then he stood up.

“Where are you going?” I asked them when they all stood up. I also stood up.

“Do something fun again.” Billy said without looking at me.

“How about your reasons of being like tha—“

“We’ll tell you on the right time. It’s not something that we could just share to you immediately. We still have to decide when would be the right time to tell you everything. We have to know you first before we trust you.” Clark said straightly while looking at me without blinking.

I couldn’t say a single word after he said those. So, it means, I have to wait for them to trust me first? How? When?

Before I could take a sigh, the four were already gone. I was already alone in my apartment.

“That’s it?” I asked in disbelief. “This is just so great!” I murmured sarcastically.
