Taking a big bite of his burrito, James nodded after I told him about April.
"Do you think it's a sign? That maybe... she might like me?" I say looking down at my untouched burrito.
"Girls are unreadable. You're asking the wrong person dude. You know how I am with girls," he says with a mouth full of food.
We both know who has luck with every girl in the school, Sam. Sam is one of our friends, but hes the "cool friend." Everyone knows who Sam is because he's on the football team, AND the lacrosse team. I don't understand how he can pull two sports out of his ass, but everyone knows he does the impossible. Summer after freshman year, he lost his virginity to the senior cheer captain named Brenda. That's considered "impossible" because Brenda was the hottest girl in the school. Unfortunately at the time, he wasn't on varsity and his acne was still there. Everyone knows about it and thinks it's embarrassing, but we still view him as our Girl God. He can get any girl he wanted just by looking at them now. Puberty hit him hard.
Biting into my burrito, I listen to James talk about a girl he "almost" had sex with last night. It was like listening to the losing part of Call Of Duty when it says "mission failed, we'll get em' next time."
"Casper? James?"
James and I both turn to see one of our friends named Leia. Laughing, James says "what are you doing at Chipotle? You're not white!"
Leia rolled her eyes at James and immediately looked over at my head of hair. "CAS! Your hair!" She yelled happily, running her hands through my messy silver locks.
"It's curly," I shrugged.
"It's SILVER," she says hugging my head tightly. "Cas, who did this to your head?"
"Oh, I did. It took me about nine hours yesterday after school, and I think April noticed? I'm not sure." Laughing nervously, I look to see James and Leia both glaring at me.
"Of course she noticed, stupid!" James leans over the table and swats my head.
Leia sat down at the table next to me and I push my burrito towards her, "I don't want this anymore."
Leia and James both pout grumpily in my direction, but I look down at my notification-full phone. I felt them both shake their heads in disbelief while I opened up Instagram.
aprilwild liked your post.
Smiling, I lean towards Leia to show her the notification, tilting my phone in her direction. Leia laughed and I showed James.
"I guess she noticed!" James shrugged at me.
The post was three selfies showing off my new hair. Each picture was in the same lighting and outfit, but different faces. The first face was me smiling, cheesing, showing my pearly white teeth that I took care of so well. The second was of me sticking my tongue out and rolling my eyes, a signature face of mine. The third was a picture of me looking confused, knowing I could have tagged April in it because of how confused she made me. My instagram had been filled with selfies, pictures of my friends and I, and fire. Everyone tells me that I have an aesthetic that makes them want to light their heads on fire, but I really don't want people to do that.
You can tell a lot about people by looking through their Instagram. If they have no posts, that means theyre a stalker undercover, or they just dont care about anything. If they strictly post memes, that means they're ugly or just a meme account. If they have only snapchat filtered selfies, then they're probably a thot. You get my meaning?
April was different. She had posted many things about her life, but none of it was a lie. It was honest. Her photos were pretty, but none of them matched the rest. It could be a selfie, it could be a sunset picture, it could be a picture of her cat, but it was April.
"Cas, you're out of it." I hear Leia say.
James and Leia had been staring at me staring out the window. I don't know why, but maybe I am out of it.
"Probably because I was up late dying my hair," I tried making an excuse but James held up his finger in my face.
"Buddy, you need a drink."
