"It's burning up in here"

MIN YOONGI, first day at school
-
I can't believe the blank faced boy standing in front of me.
What kind of joke is life playing with me because I'm sure not finding it funny.
"What are you doing here?" I finally say.
He huffs. "Are you kidding me?" he says scathingly, "I should be the one asking you that. What are you doing here?"
"I transferred here," I say dumbly, unable to say anything more in shock.
He laughs mockingly, "that much I could figure out on my own. I thought you ran off to Daegu or something."
I grit my teeth. Here comes the conversation I've dreaded for 7 years.
"I didn't run off, I-"
"Yeah, whatever," he shrugs, "I don't want to know."
I gulp.
Nothing but the loud noise of the crickets announcing the advent of evening surround us as we stand and stare at each other.
"It's been awhile since we met," I manage to say.
"Seven years, to be precise," he nods.
We fall silent again.
"You've grown taller little brother," I manage to smirk and say it off handedly, thinking of the thousand ways he can react to it.
Because after all, he had always been the hot head in the family.
"Yes, even taller than my mighty elder brother," he smirks back at me with ease.
I smile sadly. Did something change?
"How are you? I've-""Don't act like you're a part of the family," he interrupts me with a hard face.
I stand shocked, my mouth falling open at his accusation.
"How can you - We're brothers!"
"Seriously? After all this time, are you really going to say that?"
"Of course I am!" I say offended and hurt at the same time, suddenly feeling as if the person in front of me was not the 11 year old twin I had to part from, but some alien.
"7 years and you still think that you're the better son!" he growls.
"7 years and you still don't see the truth!" I growl right back.
7 years and now we're strangers.
He straightens his tie with one hand and looks at me, "Let's do this: you do your thing, I do mine. Because God knows it will get ugly if I ever have to call you my brother again."
"You share my sentiments on that, little brother,"I smirk as I stand up straighter and dig a hand into my pocket.
I need to be at ease. I won't let his hurtful words get to me again.
"Oh, someone seems to be at ease!" he smirks back and digs his hand into his pockets like me, "something tells me I'm going to see you more than I intended to."
"That you are," I say, "after all, we are back to being in the same classroom again. Just like old times."
His face hardens at this, just like I had predicted, and he suddenly rushes forward and stands very close to me.
"Don't try to irk me if you don't want to burn yourself, Kim Yoon- no wait. What was that new name you gave yourself now? Ah! Min Yoongi," bares his teeth and laughs at my face, his dimples prominent like ever.
I simply smile.
And then just as suddenly, I grab him by his collar and pull him closer still, and say, "You don't say that to someone who taught you how to play with fire, Kim Namjoon."
