Chapter Three The Magic Knight Exams

(Quick note: Asami does not have two elements, holy magic is a version of fire magic. She is just able to use the more concentrated form of her holy magic, which happens to be fire. Also quick hint Asami comes from a long line of holy magic users, and fire users as well.)

Asami POV

I tapped my foot on the ground as I waited for the line to shorten. Me, Yuno and Asta had arrived in the capital and were waiting to register for the exams.

"Next" The man inside the booth called. I took a deep breath before speaking forward.

"My name is Asami, and I am from Hage village" I spoke with a smile. The man didn't seem interested at all. Maybe because I was a commoner from a very far out village, he didn't think I'd pass.

"Let me see your Grimoir" He demanded in a bland voice. I shifted uncomfortably before handing him the navy blue book. I bite my bottom lip and looked at the ground. "A four leaf clover" He gasped showing it to the person beside him. "Your number is 163, and good luck miss" He smiled and gave it back to me. I then headed inside and waited for either Yuno or Asta. I was just minding my own business when these birds started flying around and landed on people, strangely they stayed away from me. Once Yuno walked in I quickly ran over to him.

"Yuno do you know why none of the birds will come near me" I whined. He raised his eyebrow at me and let out a small laugh.

"You really don't know" He asked tilting his head. I only nodded, and gave him pleading eyes. "They are attracted to people with lower levels of magic" He explained in a very simple way.

"Is that why Asta is covered in them" I questioned pointing at the ash haired boy. A smirked formed onto his face, but he didn't say anything. That was the thing with Yuno he wasn't that great at answering questions, or maybe I just asked to many. That didn't matter right now, I had to focus on these upcoming tests. I was heading over to Asta when I noticed him bump into someone. Not just anyone, that looked like Yami the captain of the black bulls. Knowing Asta he was going to mess this up somehow and almost get himself killed, and I can't get blood on my clothes today.

I just decided that it would be easier to just wait until the exams had started to talk with him. Suddenly the birds flew away and the captains appeared on the balcony above. The pure magical power radiating off of them was insane, but some people down here were decent. While not to be rude others were wasting their time by being here. Then again they could be like Asta and have a really cool power that will kill everyone in this exam. There was a man who wore a mask with some fur like thing at the back. I recognized him almost instantly. William Vengeance the captain of the golden dawn, currently the strongest group of magic knights there is. That's my goal, I want to be in that group, this is my chance.

Suddenly a tree grew in the middle of the sky and sprouted out it's roots to each contestant. On each root was a broom, I'm assuming they want us to fly on it, it's pretty simple.

"Now then, let the magic knights entrance exam begin" William started. "We will be testing you on a number of different things. We 9 captains will be the ones looking over what you do. And when all is said and done, we'll chose who we want on our respected squads. And whoever isn't chosen by any of us please understand that means you've failed. Your first test is to use that broom and fly" He explained in a voice that matched his appearance all to well.

I set the broom on the ground and stepped on it. I had been practicing this for 6 months I'm going to impress them. I focused my magical energy and felt myself take off calmly. I looked up from my concentration and saw Yuno doing the same.

"Are you sure you should be doing that your wearing a skirt" He asked pointing at my clothes.

"I have shorts under it, I'm a little smarter then that" I spoke in a sarcastic tone. I then looked down and saw Asta struggling, so I flew down next to him. "Hey maybe it's broken, why don't you try mine" I said offering the wooden stick to him.

"Thank you Asami, I won't forget this" He bowed insanely fast. I repeated the same steps from earlier and took off once again, but this time I was hovering just slightly above the ground.

The next test was to hit a brick wall. I had some pretty strong long range attacks, but I'm going to have to tone it down a little, so I won't hurt anybody by accident. Since I had memorized most pages in my Grimoir I won't need it to perform my more powerful spells.

"Fire Magic: Dragons Roar" I chanted and fire erupted out of my hands, towards the wall. After that the bricks were reduced to nothing but ash, and I was pretty impressed with myself.

Now we had to try and hit these moving targets, they weren't that fast so it was predictable. I shot out beams of light and destroyed the centers of at least three of them. To be honest I was quite pleased with myself.

Next we had to create something using magic, anything we wanted to. I generated some fire and started molding it, until it looked like a dragon. I added a lot of detail to it since I had drawn this picture many times, so it seemed the easiest to make.

The second last test seemed to be the most difficult so far. We had to take a seed and grow it with our magic. It might sound easy, but many people here were struggling. With enough effort and a thin layer of sweat on my forehead the seed began to grow. To the point where it became a lovely tree, to bad I couldn't keep it. It would have looked amazing outside of the church.

Finally it was the last test, and to be honest this one is my favourite. We have to pick an opponent and have a one on one fight. This may sound wrong, but the best way to win this is to deceive the other contestants. So I decided it was time to break out my favourite act, the innocent little girl act. It would attract people to me, and when it came time to fight I could beat them easily. I sort of got the idea from how Asta's opponent only was with him because he looked weak, while he told Asta it was because they were friends. That's why I found it quite pleasing to see him laying unconscious in his own creation. That cocky brat deserved it more then anybody else here.

I couldn't help but notice the smirk that was one Yuno's face. I believe it was due to the results of the fight, it could also be that Asta just declared to be the sorcery emperor as well. I'm not sure, but it's one of those two. Suddenly there was a slight pressure on my shoulder. I turned slightly to face a girl with navy blue hair tied up in a sleek bun, allow with that she had vibrant greens eyes that matched my own. She had a fake smile spread across her face in some hopes of tricking me into being her partner.

"Would you like to be my partner" She asked in a timid voice. I could tell right away she was acting, I mean it wasn't that hard to tell. Also she was dressed in a simple white dress that somehow wasn't the slightest bit dirty. I could tell from her apparel that she was of a noble family, so that meant she was quite sure she could beat me with her large mana supply.

"That would be great" I replied in a shaky voice, forcing myself to feel scared. For a slight moment I swore I saw her smirk, she just gave herself away to me. Even though she had already done that. Besides that we walked slowly to the ring where the fight was to take place. Judging by her stance she was a water users, and she planned to use her Grimoir right away to get me out.

"Begin"

"Earth magic: Mountains Rath" My partner chanted as a boulders shot towards me. I just slightly stepped to the side allowing the spell to miss me. This girl made a mistake, because now it was my turn. I took a moment to think and decided on a spell, without even looking at my Grimoir I began to build up my mana.

"Holy magic: Heavenly Beams" I announced as white beams rained from the sky aimed at the navy haired girl. Once the lights finally ceased there she was lying on the ground unconscious. I cheered in my mind slightly knowing that meant my victory.
