Anne's POV.

"Mommy, mommy, mommy!" Americus said excitedly. I wake up to see her and Peter have made me breakfast in bed. I smile happily at her and Peter. "Thank you sweetie!" I say to Americus the thanks is for Peter to though. "I used to make these for my mother all the time for her birthday, even in the annex, remember Peter?" I asked and he starts laughing. "Hey it wasn't my fault Pim usually helps me!" I say laughing with him. "Mommy what's the annex?" Americus ask and Peter and I smile down at her. "This is the annex sweetheart. This is where we hid for 2 years before being found." Peter said before adding. "This is where your mom and I had our first kiss and where we really got to know each other." I smiled up at him finishing breakfast. "You wanna know what our favorite thing to do here was?" I asked Americus she nodded and I picked her up.

We walked up the stairs to  the attic and stood by the window. "We would come up here and talk all we could. We would stare at the chestnut tree, lovely isn't it?" I said to Americus who continued to stare at the tree but nodded. I looked down at her and realized we hadn't figured out her birthday. "Americus?" I said, "Yes mommy?" she replied. "When is your birthday?" She looked up at me and smiled. "My birthday is, February 16th." She replied and I froze she has the same birthday as Margot. Peter knew that to he looked at me and I come back to reality. "What a nice birthday!" I say smiling at her. "My real mom gave birth to me a year before we got taken, we stayed at Westerbork for a while up until I was two. Then we got sent to Auschwitz and separated. We were liberated days later." She said without us asking. "How did you survive being so small?" Peter asked her. "Some nice ladies found me and hid me away in the barracks, they gave me food and told me stories, had it not been for them I wouldn't be here." We hugged her tight and were so grateful for those ladies at that moment.

Later we decided to take Americus to the park again. "Anne!" Someone cried I look up to see Hanneli I yelled her name and hugged her and her little sister Gabby. "She has gotten so big!" I tell her before introducing her to Peter and Americus. While we are walking Gabby and Americus start talking and are best friends like that. "It's hard taking care of children, isn't it?" Hanneli ask, "Well I guess I mean we haven't had Americus that long, and don't your parents help you Hanneli?" I ask her. "No, they past away in camps I've been taking care of Gabby since then even in the camps. We stay at the orphanage now." She says and I look up at her eyes full of sadness for her and also of worry. "But Hanneli! What if you guys get separated?" I ask scared, "I have been worried about that too Anne, but after thinking about it I found it would be best. I can't take care of Gabby all by myself." She says sadly before changing the subject. We dropped Americus of at home and Peter took me out to a lovely dinner and gave me a darling necklace he is such a sweet boy I love him so much.
