Lost In Darkness

"I'm afraid of falling"

She whispered

Her voice muffled

By his soft, blue t shirt.

She didn't want to forget this,

Not the way he smelled,

Or the way his greenish-brown eyes looked at her,

Or the way his smile was crooked and perfect.

"I'll catch you"

He promised

As he made her look at him

And wiped the silent tears

Off her pale, soft cheeks.

In the moment

He vowed to lover her

And protect her

From the pain he could cause.

He kissed her lips

As tasted the salty tears of fear

As he looked into her green, watery eyes

And she looked in his light brown, dry eyes

And they said

In unexpected unison

"I love you"

And they fell far and hard

Into a black hole of the unknown.
