Letter to Me: Let It Be

Because they laughed, you fell.

Because they kept laughing, you got angry.

Because they persisted, you grew extreme.

But you let it go, this time.

Because you are who you are, they continued

Because you didn't hear God, you suffered.

Wondering why, oh why is everyone so mean to me?

Perfection running rampant through your head like fire,

In everything you do, it must be so damn perfect.

So you made some mistakes, you put up with some bullshit,

It's fine you still live man!

Your body exudes love, and kindness but,

Your body exudes loneliness and hurt but,

Your body exudes you, and you, and you,

Your body exudes, your heart, your inner being;

On a sleeve, you wore your heart while others hid theirs,

You loved while others hated,

Played the nice game for too long —

I get it. Perfection. Virtue. Christianity.

I get it. It's all about the well-rounded story, no edges

So you hide every wrinkle, every "mistake",

In an effort to hide yourself.

This same self that was laughed at,

This same self that was ridiculed,

This same self that was judged.

Well, I never heard of scripture in the bible where Jesus told us to run from ourselves.

Don't run from you.

You are worthy to be befriended and appreciated,

You are worthy to be loved and supported,

Regardless of your faults,

For no matter how bad they seem it's okay,

We all have to whistle in the dark,

Every now and then.

Be unapologetically you.
