There was a boy who believed he was ugly. The boy believed that he was, Unsuitable for love, any love, He felt that ultimately he couldn't be loved.
The boy was slightly overweight, The boy wore Harry Potter style glasses, The boy had his hair dyed pink, The boy was considered white trash, The boy was struggling with accepting his place in society.
We have forgotten in society these voices, Those who cannot tell their own story. There are boys out there who believe that because their bodies are not thin and muscular or fit into America's ideal that their ugly. This "ugliness" leads them think that they are unworthy to be loved.
We really have to start looking at people as people. People are more than bodies, People have souls, We are more than looks.
Especially as teenagers, We are all just kids still growing up. We are more in need of love and nurturing than we ever were. We test limits, we try new personalities and looks, We want to see how much we can look ideal, to some extent, We want to be different and we want to be appreciated for our interpretation of life.
Society: "That's ugly, you should dress and act like...." Teenagers: "Ok, well what about this?" Younger kids: "Wow that's cool!" Parents: "No that's ugly! Dress and act like...." Teenagers: Compromises. "Ok, I'll try and do both." Society: "Well eww, now this is in style!" Teenager: "I'm depressed because I don't fit in.." Younger kids: "I have anxiety because I'm not sure of myself anymore.." Parents: "What happened to creativity and being original haha, that was hip in my day." Society: "Times have changed Susan, originality is out of style. And btw you're ugly now too. You should...Tell your kids to...Talk like...Act like..."
We need to embrace ugliness, We all deserved to be loved, Despite our looks and ideas. After all age is beauty in progress.
