"It's fucking beautiful, and we haven't even left the airport yet," Harry breathed in awe, holding his camera out in front of him. Lewis smiled timidly, seeing himself in the edge of the viewfinder.
"Aren't we meant to be putting the cameras away for a bit?" Josh commented, exchanging a look with Lewis and holding back a laugh.
"It can't hurt to get some shots in! Do you really want to forget a trip like this?" Harry defended, turning the camera on his bearded friend and raising his eyebrows. Lewis glanced between the two of them, letting out a laugh as he made eye contact with his lanky friend to his right.
"If this is what the airport is like, I can't wait to see the hotel room." Simon almost bounced in excitement, his hands wrapping around the straps of his backpack.
Lewis smiled, looking as the view out the enormous sliding glass doors grew closer and closer. "I can't wait to see the beach," he added.
"I can't wait to see the women," Tobi added cheekily, earning a laugh from the group. They all chatted aimlessly about the plans they'd made, and the plans they'd yet to make, but Lewis felt himself too exhausted and excited to talk about things that weren't to come for days.
As the air hit their skin, the doors sliding to make way for the group, Lewis felt his lips twitch into a small smile. He ran a hand through his hair, pushing it away from his forehead and sucking in a fresh breath. The Spanish air was already doing him good, and he'd only just taken his first step on the soil.
"There's a car here to take us, it should be around the corner that way." Josh instructed, his eyes down on his phone screen as he guided the way.
"The hotel's only two blocks, what do we need a car for?" Simon laughed, looking over at Lewis with a giant childlike grin on his face.
"We've got luggage!" Harry waved his free hand towards the suitcases they all dragged behind them.
"Can I just load my bag up and then walk? I don't think I can sit for another minute." Lewis asked, letting out a short chuckle as he blinked through the sun at his mates.
Harry looked a bit crestfallen at the idea of them being separated this early on in the trip, but Simon nodded, seeming keen on the idea as well. "Yeah, alright. We'll see you there, then?" Harry agreed, looking between Simon and Lewis as they stopped in front of a large black SUV, pulling the boot open.
Lewis and Simon nodded, the taller boy a bit more enthusiastically, and they lifted their luggage into the back before stepping back to help the other lads. "We'll see you all at the hotel," Lewis said in parting, lifting a hand in a wave as he and Simon set off down the sidewalk and towards the city surrounding the airport.
"This is breathtaking." Simon commented, his eyes scanning the beach in the distance, growing nearer and nearer as they walked further.
Lewis followed his gaze, seeing the streets seem to gape open and welcome them to the ocean, to the island itself. He'd heard enough about Ibiza from his friends - and from that painfully catchy song - but now he felt he was just beginning to live it. "It really is."
They stayed silent, feeling like they'd begun to breathe easier than they had in weeks. Lewis had been holding the weight of the boys' merch work on his shoulders for months, and he'd needed to shake it. Now, for the first time in what felt like forever, as he walked he finally felt absolutely nothing.
Nothing, that is, except for anticipation. "We've got to come back here tomorrow," Lewis finally spoke up as he caught sight of the shops lining the beach, of the coffee and cafes and open bars, the water sports huts and the clubs. "That cafe looks..."
His words disappeared as a girl stepped through the doorway onto the open patio. An apron sat around her wide hips, and her long, black, curly hair was clipped half way back. Lewis thought he'd never seen a girl wear a tee shirt so well in his life.
And then, as she spoke to the table with the swimsuit-clad couple, she tilted her head back and let out a musical laugh that he could hear from where he stood a hundred yards away.
"Mate, you alright?" Simon's hand came down on his shoulder tentatively, and Lewis snapped his head around, realizing he'd physically frozen on the pavement as he watched the girl.
"Yeah, fine." Lewis nodded, glancing back over his shoulder and seeing an empty space where he sworn he'd just seen the girl. "Maybe we could eat lunch here tomorrow?" He asked casually, nodding in the direction of the small cafe.
Simon gave his friend a confused look, then letting out a chuckle as he shook his head.
"Yeah, whatever, weirdo."
