She slid her hands through her hair, staring at her reflection as the curls disappeared behind the headband across her forehead. It wasn't perfect, but it was the best she could do for a Tuesday morning. Her makeup was done enough, and she'd put on deodorant - those were small victories.
"No llegues tardes!" Mama called from the hallway, leaning her head around the doorway. Luciana nodded her head in response, catching her Mama's eye in the mirror. The older, smaller woman moved into the room, setting the laundry basket on her daughter's messy bed.
"Mi hija es hermosa," She cooed, putting her hands on her arms and resting her chin on her shoulder. Luciana rested her head against her mama's and smiled, giving her a kiss on the head.
"Te quiero, mama." Luciana smiled, straightening up and grabbing her bag from the counter. She waved, bounding down the stairs and throwing a wave at her father at the table as she left through the bright teal front door.
Her sandal-clad feet echoed on the pavement as she walked down the brick alleyway, emerging onto the street just blocks from the beachside cafe she'd worked her way through college at. Now she was back from the next city, where she'd studied English, and living in her old bedroom with her parents again. It wasn't what Luciana had imagined life post-university would be like, but it was familiar.
Sometimes she dreamed of one of those foreign men that threw their money away in the clubs taking her away to somewhere exotic, falling in love, having her own home. But then she realized how simple things were when it was just her and Mama and Papa, and the steady job at the restaurant, and the evenings on the beach with a book, or a club on the weekends with her friends.
"Buenos dias!" Luciana called, walking through the bright entryway to the cafe and dropping her bag behind the counter.
Her coworkers returned the sentiment, getting back to their side work before their first customers of the day showed up. Luciana had been learning English since the day she was born, as that was the way of life in a tourist town. But she'd found the more tourists that passed through, the better her English became until soon she found herself practicing every phrase she said over again in English as she spoke it in her native tongue.
The day was mundane, just as the one before and the one before that. By the time the breakfast rush had cleared out, Luciana had found herself behind the counter with a copy of Pride and Prejudice, her elbows on the counter and her chin in her palm as she became entranced by Mr. Darcy.
"Excuse me," She glanced up, instantly straightening up as she laid eyes on the group of foreigners before her. It was all boys, and she managed an easy smile. Her mother had always told her she had a spark, and she found herself slipping so easily into the more alluring persona when she met the men on the island.
"Siete?" She asked, glancing around the group. Suddenly, a loud and contagious laugh met her ears and a grinning boy jogged into the restaurant, bending over and resting his hands on his knees.
"Erm, ocho." said a slender, tanned boy with outstanding eyebrows as the rest of the group laughed ferociously.
Luciana nodded, grabbing a handful of menus and stepping around the hostess as she led the way out onto the sunny patio, pushing a table together and starting to set out the menus as the boys got seated.
"Is it alright if we open the umbrellas?" Asked the shorter of the two black boys, smiling politely at Luciana.
"Your friends will burn like toast?" She teased, earning a laugh from the group. She nodded with a smile, standing on her toes as she reached for the umbrella. The boy who'd stayed the quietest suddenly jolted to his feet, the chair scratching loudly across the floor.
"I can help." He announced, sending two of the boys into loud laughter at his behavior. Luciana looked across the table at him, smiling thankfully as he diverted his brown eyes away from her and started to work on the umbrella. As Luciana stretched the open the umbrella, Lewis almost dropped the umbrella, seeing the way her shirt lifted to expose a sliver of tanned skin on her side.
"Mate?" JJ laughed tauntingly, raising his eyebrows at his friend. Luciana put the screw in the umbrella, resting back on her heels. She didn't bother t fix her shirt as she smiled at the table, her blood pumping as she realized just how handsome the boy across from her was.
"What can I get to start?"
AN: hey all, just as a heads up this is going to be a lust-filled story. Although that kind of sounds like the route it's going in the description, I felt it was necessary to give advance warning. Lewis is only on a two week trip - a lot is going to happen in two weeks to make this story interesting. Reader discretion is advised ;)
