Lucy reached up, tightening her ponytail before she wiped the sweat from her forehead with the back of her hand. "I think I need a glass of wine."
"I think I need a bottle of wine." Lewis responded, putting his hands on his hips and trying to slow his breathing. Before them was their newly arranged bedroom, their new bed frame all put together, two matching nightstands constructed and situated on either side, another lamp now purchased and adorning the nightstand by the left side of the bed, her side of the bed. The mattress had been replaced atop the frame, but the sheets had yet to be put back on.
Lucy looked around at the room. She'd picked out the rug, something colorful and striped and woven that looked like home. It was perfect with the dark wood of the bed and tables, and although their lamps didn't match, they looked like Lewis and Lucy, on their side of the bed to make things look like their own. Hers was a stout, rounded white lamp with a cream shade, his black with the circular base and the neck that curved and directed the light downwards.
"I'm taking a shower. Can we rearrange the living room tomorrow?" Lewis pleaded, looking over at Lucy with a face of pure exhaustion. She smiled back, nodding.
"Absolutely. I'll make the bed and start some dinner, okay?" She held out a hand, grabbing onto Lewis' where it hung at his side. He beamed back, bending down and pressing a soft kiss on her cheek.
"That sounds lovely, thank you Lucy." He gave her one more soft kiss on her head, then turned and went to the bathroom, closing the door with a click and starting up the water a moment later.
She felt glued to the spot, always a bit entranced after he kissed her. After a moment, Lucy pulled herself into the living room where the nick-knacks from their room were piled on the couch with their freshly washed sheets. Lucy got to work, making up the bed and putting their pillows back where they belonged - the soft one of her side, firm on his.
Lucy got to work replacing his things in the drawer of his table, putting his phone charger back in the wall and setting it on his table on top of a copy of a book she'd convinced him to read by Oscar Wilde. Her things went back where they belonged too, her copy of Walden sitting on her table with her phone and chapstick, and everything else sliding back in the drawer - her notebook, the stack of letters she saved from Lewis, and an empty picture frame.
A single scrap of paper poked out from between the letters, and Lucy tugged it out to find the little wrinkled note from the rooftop, the little reminder written just for her. Her lips couldn't stop the smile, and she slid the little slip into the picture frame. Lucy climbed onto the bed, lifting the stock photo of the London eye from the nail above the bed and replacing it with the small frame, the note centered in the middle of the black background.
She sat back, smiling to herself before she put the old picture away in the closet and heading to the kitchen to get working on some dinner. Lewis soon joined her, helping cut up some vegetables to toss in the pan that sizzled on the stovetop.
"I never really liked that painting of the eye, anyway." He said finally, interrupting their concentrated silence.
Lucy looked up at him, giving him a teasing smile. "And you love me a lot, anyway."
"Yeah, I do." Lewis conceded, grabbing her wide hips and pulling her towards him so he could leave a lingering kiss on her lips. "I love you a whole lot."
