Only a few places alternate what we understand as reality.

Snow. Early in the Morning when the freshly fallen snow is untouched. The silence that came along with the snow left the atmosphere feeling calm. You greet your neighbor quietly since you don't want to disturb the stillness that has surrounded you. You feel completely different, all of your troubles has been put on ice, resting for now. You smile and then shiver being reminded how powerful nature really is. You are not lonely, on the contrary you are actually the complete opposite, everyone in your area is experiencing the exact same thing. You are all bonded. You smile, this makes you happy. Your entire reality is just a bit altered in this exact moment.

An empty parking lot. You park your car. It's in the afternoon, and no body is around. You know that behind the automatic doors to the supermarket is a couple of workers going about with their everyday life, but that somehow does not interfere with the empty parking lot. You are completely alone. It is as if a catastrophe could happen right here on the spot, and no one would notice. A cart is placed in the middle of nowhere on the gigantic piece of concrete. Lonely, just like you. You feel different. The shopping list hidden away in your pocket is somewhat unimportant. The silence creeps upon you.  You hear your own steps on the concrete. You hear the weak sum from the light post. Has that noice always been there? You admire it, you admire the little things, because as soon as you start your car to drive back home, all of this is gone. Your entire reality is just a bit altered in this exact moment.

Rooftops. Alone again, on the top of a giant building or even just on top of your one story house, sitting relaxed. It's very early in the morning, you can see the sun begin to rise and hear the birds begin to sing. Or maybe it's actually early night, and the sun is just setting. Time is lost. You are lost. The buzzing of the city in the far background is just loud enough to reach you. You shift in your spot making a sound louder than first anticipated, making you realize how dead and silent the night is. You are alone, but voluntarily alone. Your thoughts are the only things keeping you from complete silence. You came up here, because it was all a bit too much. But for once in a while you feel calm. All of your anger, all of your sadness and all of your frustration washed away by silence. You are so much more, and you just feel calm. The breeze from the night hits your face making you smile and forget. Your entire reality is just a bit altered in this exact moment.

What do all these places have in common? You. With out you these places are boring. You matter. Then there is the silence. It is so powerful. Something that we forget to notice and appreciate. We keep reminding ourselves to speak, to do, to react. But sometimes silence speaks louder than anything.

Different realities is what we sometimes need to be reminded what is appreciated and what is torturing us. A reality check. To both escape from life and to dwell deeper into it. Sometimes all you need is perspective which can only be found in a place like this.
